In honor of Presidents' Day we thought we'd highlight one of our newest destinations that has been home to our Presidents... Washington D.C.  Our nation's capital has become an increasingly popular vacation destination for all kinds of travelers!

Surround yourself with American history, art, culture and so much more.  One of the best things about Washington D.C. is how affordable it is for travelers.  Many of the most popular attractions are free, which saves you money.  There is so much to do here that you really must narrow down your list to exactly what you have time for during your trip.  Here is our list of top FREE attractions in Washington D.C.

The White House:  No visit to Washington D.C. is complete without a tour of the home of the Presidents.  You must make reservations for this tour in advance through your state's representative.  Tours through certain areas of the White House are self guided, and fascinating to see.  To enhance your tour experience, stop by the nearby White House Visitors Center for more in depth information.

The Capitol:  Guided tours of the Capitol are a must for any Washington D.C. vacation.  Reservations are required and may be made through contacting your state representative.  Tours depart from different locations, so you will be given directions on where and when you will begin your tour.  Here you'll see the Senate, House of Representatives, the Rotunda, and more depending on what is taking place the day of your visit.

The Monuments:  Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington and many more are each memorialized with their own monument.  These iconic landmarks are impressive and touching.

The Memorials:  Veterans from major wars are forever remembered at the Korean War Veterans Memorial, World War II Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial and many others.  Come pay your respects to these heroes.

The Smithsonian:  You could spend days at all of the museums of the Smithsonian.  Some of the more popular of the museums include the National History Museum (which was recently reopened after refurbishment), the Natural History Museum, the American Art Museum (which houses the National Portrait Gallery), and the Air and Space Museum.

National Archives:  Original documents that formed our country can all be viewed here.  Read the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, the Constitution and more, all in their original state.

This is just a sampling of all of the many free activities and attractions in Washington D.C.  Many more attractions like Mount Vernon and Arlington Cemetery are also incredibly popular, and while not free, are very affordable. It is a perfect vacation destination any time of year because everything is easily accessible via walking and public transportation, and right now prices are unbeatable.  Check out our vacation deals for Washington D.C. and book your patriotic get away today!
