Cruises are quickly becoming more and more popular among travelers, and it’s easy to see why. Cruises offer accommodations, food, activities, entertainment, and transportation to some of the most sought after destinations in the world—all for one low price! With so many
amazing cruise options, it can seem overwhelming to pick the perfect cruise. Before you go on a cruise there is a lot to decide. We’ve compiled a list of questions to help you plan the cruise that’s right for you.
1. Where do you want to cruise?
This can be one of the trickiest questions of all. There are so many great places to choose from, it can be really difficult to decide on just one. Things to keep in mind could be whether or not you’ll need a passport, if you’re looking for something tropical, if you want to hit as many ports as possible, and if there are any specific ports you’d like to visit.
2. Where will you cruise from?
There are so many ports that cruises depart from that you can select which is most convenient for you. San Diego and Long Beach are popular departing ports in Southern California for cruises to Mexico. Seattle is a popular departure port for Alaskan cruises. Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, and Port Canaveral are frequented departure ports in Florida for a wide variety of Caribbean cruises. Most ports have parking areas if you are close enough to drive. If you are flying, there are multiple transportation options to make sure you get to your port on time.
3. How long will you cruise?
If you are a first time cruiser, you may want to consider a three or four day cruise tofamiliarize yourself with the experience. The most popular cruise length is around seven days, but if you have a lot of time, there are many ten day and longer cruises which embark at many fabulous ports.
4. How many people will be in your cabin?
Most cruise rates are based on double occupancy, but the cabins may sleep up to four. Third and fourth passenger rates are normally less than the first two passengers and are mostly created for families with children. If you are traveling with children, please plan on providing the ages when booking. Four adults may be cramped in one cabin, unless you upgrade to a suite or larger cabin.
5. How many people will be traveling with you?
Cruises are a great vacation for couples, friends, and immediate and extended families. Many couples or families will want to get other couples or families to travel on the same cruise. Cruises are especially popular for family reunions. Most cruises will have at least one day at sea where the ship doesn’t port, and you enjoy all of the onboard activities. There are so many group activities that you can be a part of while still enjoying the privacy of your own cabin.
6. Do you prefer an inside or outside cabin?
Inside cabins are the most cost effective cabins on a cruise ship. This means they are in the interior hall on the interior side of the ship and do not have any windows. Outside cabins are entered from the interior hall, but open to the exterior of the ship. These cabins have outside windows, and some upgraded cabins even have balconies. Many cruisers enjoy the outside cabins to enjoy the ocean views and natural sunlight.
