Happy 20th Anniversary Splash Mountain!

One of the wettest, wildest, and most beloved of Disneyland® Resort attractions celebrates 20 years of "splashing" good times.  Splash Mountain, based on Disney's Song of the South, opened today in 1989 in Critter Country and continues to send guests on a cruise through Br'er Rabbit's "laughin' place" before sending them plummeting into the briar patch, only to then celebrate Br'er Rabbit's success in tricking Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear with his friends in song with the timeless classic "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah."

Because Splash Mountain is one of the most popular attractions at Disneyland® Park, lines can get long, especially during hot summer days.  We have a few tips so you can enjoy Splash Mountain without the wait:

  • Get a FASTPASS® early in the morning.  If you're at Disneyland® during a busy time or on hot days, FASTPASSES® can run out quickly, which means if you don't get one soon, you're out of luck.  We recommend heading to Splash Mountain early in the day to grab a FASTPASS®, then riding nearby The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh to make the walk worth your while.
  • Oftentimes early morning lines aren't too long, so if you can get there first thing, grab a FASTPASS® for later in the day (when it's hot) and then ride while lines are shorter.  That way you can squeeze this favorite attraction in twice in one day.
  • Take a night ride on Splash Mountain.  Lines for Splash Mountain can diminish as the night cools down.  Lines are especially short during the fireworks, parades, and special shows like Fantasmic!, and are therefore great times to ride Splash Mountain.  Just pack a poncho and/or sweatshirt to keep warm, although most summer nights in Anaheim are quite temperate.
  • Ride when it's already wet.  One of the best times to visit Disneyland® is actually when it's raining.  Crowds are normally much smaller, and most people are trying to avoid getting wet.  Grab a poncho and with just a little preparation, you can ride the best attractions (including Splash Mountain) with hardly a wait.
We hope these tips are helpful for planning your visit to the Disneyland® Resort, and just in case these hints don't work out for you, don't worry, Splash Mountain is definitely worth the wait!
