A Pirate's Life for Amee

Thursday, October 01, 2009
Written by Kimberly Fidler
Last week Amee, one of our Team Leaders at Get Away Today, and her husband had the opportunity to stay at the super exclusive, super awesome, and super pirate-y Pirates of the Caribbean suite inside the Disneyland® Hotel.  She was the lucky recipient of a contest Disney did for our office and was able to spend two nights in this remarkable suite at the Disneyland® Resort.  The suite is not available to the public and it is planned to be taken out sometime during the current multi-million dollar renovation of the Disneyland® Hotel.  This suite has been a celebrity favorite for many stars, including Captain Jack Sparrow himself, Johnny Depp!

The multi-room suite is composed of two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a living room, dining room, and a kitchenette.  Each of the rooms are appointed with collectibles, film memorabilia and replicas, themed artwork based on its namesake attraction, and other Pirate treasures.  The bathrooms are even stocked with "Swashbuckling Shampoo" and other buccaneer themed toiletries.  The suite is situated on the top floor of the Dreams Tower at the Disneyland® Hotel and has a perfectly fitting view of Captain Hook's ship of the Neverland Pool.

Amee had the following to say about the experience:

"I actually do not have a favorite part of the suite, the whole thing was spectacular. The whole atmosphere from the second you walked in was unexpected. The master bedroom/bathroom was amazing, very comfortable and roomy. The living/dining room was incredible. Disney always has to make sure everything is very elaborate and detailed and the Pirates of the Caribbean suite was no exception.  Everything was Pirates; the pictures, furniture, decorations, and lighting!  The doorbell (yes, it has a doorbell) even rang as the theme song from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.  Nothing was overlooked. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and we enjoyed every second!"

There are still plenty of pirate-y treasures at the Disneyland® Resort for the rest of us who won't get the opportunity to stay there.  Truly one of the most popular and classic attractions at Disneyland® Park is the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride.  As an interesting side note, Walt Disney originally visualized the present day version as a walk-through attraction, but it was then decided to have the guests experience everything by boat.  The recent additions of Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Barbosa, and other elements from the film series have been really fun for new and returning guests to experience.

For a "finer" pirate experience, enjoy lunch or dinner at the Blue Bayou restaurant, the only restaurant located inside an attraction at the Disneyland® Resort.  Here you can dine on a number of dishes like jambalaya, gumbo, and other New Orleans favorites.  This is an incredibly popular eatery, so we recommend making reservations well in advance.  Reservations are accepted up to 60 days before your arrival date, so it helps to book early.

For more swashbuckling adventure you can climb aboard a raft and cross the Rivers of America to the Pirate's Lair located on Tom Sawyer's Island.  Here you can explore spooky pirate hideouts, learn vital pirate skills, and hunt for hidden treasure — but look out for ghost pirates and ancient curses!  Venture into the dark and mysterious caverns of Dead Man's Grotto before heading to the hidden caves of Pirate's Den below Castle Rock.  You'll also uncover a wealth of riches in Smuggler's Cove.

Visit Captain Hook inside Disneyland® Park's Peter Pan's Flight attraction located inside Fantasyland.  Or, for a splashing good time, stay at the Disneyland® Hotel and take a dip in the Neverland Pool.  Whatever pirate-y adventures you decide on, you "arrrr" certain to have a great time at the Disneyland® Resort and with Get Away Today we help you save your treasure with our discounted hotel and ticket packages.  Book your Disney vacation today!
