Ever since his untimely death, rumors have been circulating that Michael Jackson's beloved "Captain EO" would return to
Disneyland® Park in the
Disneyland® Resort. Up until now those rumors have been just that... rumors. But now, Disney has announced that the King of Pop will be seen once again as Captain EO at the Happiest Place on Earth! We received the following press release straight from Disney:
"Twenty-three years ago, at the peak of his phenomenal entertainment career, Michael Jackson joined forces with Disney to create Captain EO, a groundbreaking 17-minute 3D film experience.
The classic musical spectacular, which thrilled Disneyland Park Guests from 1986-1997, will return for an exclusive, limited engagement at Disneyland Park starting in February, 2010.
Bringing together two of the most acclaimed filmmakers of their time, Captain EO was directed by Academy Award-winning director Francis Ford Coppola and was executive produced by Star Wars creator George Lucas. Along with Jackson, the film stars Academy Award winner Anjelica Huston and contains a score by Oscar-winning Titanic composer James Horner.
The attraction's return to Tomorrowland will provide new audiences the opportunity to experience the original 3D production for the very first time, as well as a nostalgic look back for longtime fans wanting to see "The King of Pop" in a rare performance created for the big-screen, just one more time.
"Honey I Shrunk The Audience" will be closing within the next couple of weeks to make way for the Captain's return.
Captain EO also ran from 1986-1994 at Walt Disney World's EPCOT, from 1987-1996 at Tokyo Disneyland and from 1992-1998 at Disneyland Paris.
The film contained two new songs written specifically for the film: "Another Part of Me," which was released as a single and on Jackson's multi-platinum "Bad" album; and "We Are Here to Change the World."
