Sculptors, skill, sand, and surf take over the shores of Imperial Beach, San Diego during the 30th annual U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition coming up from August 6-8, 2010.

The festivities will kick off with The Sandcastle Dance, an adults-only event held on Friday, August 6 at the Imperial Beach Boys and Girls Club. Saturday will mark the beginning of the street festival where over 140 vendors showcase their unique wares and live music fills the salty sea air. Saturday is also the day of the Kids and Kastles Competition where children 12 and under will compete in sand sculptures in three categories—castles, best sculpture, and creatures of the sea. The competition will take place from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. with winners and prizes being awarded from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

On Sunday top sand artists from across the country will display their expertise in a parade of unbelievable sand castles. Sculptors will have from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to unleash their imaginations and complete their breathtaking works of art. Judges will immediately evaluate the castles as the tide is likely to wash them away by 4:00 p.m.
