Get Away Today offers the most cruise lines at the best available prices. We love booking cruises and we're here to help, whether you're a cruise veteran or a first time cruiser.  Here is our list of most Frequently Asked Questions regarding cruises:

Will I need a Passport?

When your cruise departs from and returns to a US port, a passport is not required. You can travel with your original Birth Certificate and every passenger over the age of 16 will also need a government issued photo ID (driver’s license). However, we highly recommend that you purchase a passport or passport card. Passports are valid for 10 years and at some point they will be required. Without a passport you are not allowed to fly to the United States from an international destination. For example, if you are in Mexico and have a family emergency that requires you to leave your vacation, you will not be able to fly home without a passport. Visit http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/ to find the best place to obtain your passport.

Current prices for a passport are:

$135 for a first-time U.S. passport for adults (ages 16 and older)
$110 for U.S. passport renewal for adults
$105 for a U.S. passport for minors (under age 16)
Current prices for a passport card are:
$55 for a first-time applicant (ages 16 and older)
$30 for a renewal for adults
$40 for minors (under age 16)

What should I pack?

Check the cruise line website for detailed information before you go and to remember to pack weather appropriate clothing for day and evening activities. A jacket or sweater may be needed in the evening on any cruise. Ask if your cruise has any formal nights, most cruises have at least one. In this case, a cocktail dress for women and a jacket and tie for men would be required for dining in the dining room.

How will I get to the pier?

Transfers to and from the airport can be booked with any cruise. Let us know about your flight plans and we will help you arrange your transfers. If you are driving, parking is available at most piers for about $15 a day. Let us arrange a pre or post night stay for you so you don’t miss out on the fun of your port city! When time allows, add on a few days to enjoy the area.

Are there any extra charges on a cruise?

Your cruise price will include taxes, port charges, accommodations, dining, on board entertainment and children’s activities. There will be extra charges for tips, which can be pre paid if you would like. These are about $10 a day per person. There is an extra charge for alcoholic beverages and also soda not offered with meals (except for Disney Cruise Line which includes a soda bar). You will need to pay for shore excursions or anything personal you do for instance, having a spa treatment, getting a haircut, shopping and on board gambling.

How do I book my shore excursions?

We will be happy to assist you with booking any shore excursions. If you are unsure of what excursions are best for you, we can give you helpful advice and information, as well as make the reservation. Shore excursions can be booked prior to your cruise. If you are undecided, you may wait until you are on board and attend the shore excursion meeting to help you decide. However, booking in advance is preferred as the excursions will fill up.

What if there is bad weather or a natural disaster?

Consider the fact the cruise line is responsible for you. With modern technology, cruise lines know well in advance if there is bad weather in an area and most likely will deviate to another place or they may mix up the itinerary to skip a risky port. The most important thing to remember is that the cruise line is interested in your safety and well being. In the case of a natural disaster, once again the cruise line will probably deviate to avoid any trouble.

Should I purchase travel insurance?

Ask yourself this question: Is the money I am spending on this cruise money I can afford to lose? Without travel insurance, your money is at risk. With the insurance you have the peace of mind in knowing that your vacation dollars, your health and belongings are protected. Most travel insurance policies offer coverage for the following:

Trip Cancellation/Interruption
Travel Delay
Baggage Coverage
Baggage Delay
Emergency Medical Transportation
Emergency Medical/Dental
