How does meeting hundreds of dolphins or even possibly a whale sound to you? How about seeing and hearing wild dolphins in an underwater viewing pod? Yep, we totally had to try it, so we headed to Dana Point, home to
Captain Dave's Dolphin and Whale Safari.
Captain Dave took us out on his specially equipped, eco friendly catamaran and within a few minutes we found ourselves surrounded by more than 1,000 Common dolphins. One by one, we were able to go down into the underwater viewing pod where we could see the dolphins under the water and hear their distinctive clicking as they spoke to each other. We stood on the front of the catamaran and watched the dolphins play with the boat, interact with each other and just hang out as a big dolphin family.
Capt'n Dave and his first mate were amazingly knowledgeable and were able to answer any questions we had about the dolphins. They told us all about their missions to rescue dolphins, harbor seals and even a whale from fishing nets and so much more. It was so amazing to be so close to such amazing creatures. And, as every adventure does, our ended on a "sweet" note with Mrs. Capt'n Dave's famous triple chocolate brownies!
