Written by Darcy Beech

This March San Diego is blossoming to life with special seasonal events. Check out some of the top happenings in the area that are certain to add some colorful springtime liveliness to your San Diego vacation:

The Flower Fields of Carlsbad, California
Now through May 8 the Carlsbad Ranch is bursting with spectacular color as its 50 sprawling acres are cloaked in millions of vibrant ranunculus blooms. Visitors can enjoy the famous fields by wandering the meandering walkways, taking a group tour, or hopping aboard an old-fashioned wagon ride pulled by an antique tractor.

Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp Quarter
Celebrate Fat Tuesday in San Diego style at Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp Quarter. On March 8, street performers, dancers, live music spun by the top DJs, and of course, The Incredible Masquerade Parade, bring the Gaslamp Quarter alive at the largest Mardi Gras celebration on the West Coast. Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp Quarter is open to guests 21 and over.

Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Friendship Garden
See San Diego’s largest cherry tree grove in all its splendor at the Japanese Friendship Garden’s Cherry Blossom Festival held this March 19. Japanese food, entertainment, gift items, demonstrations, exhibitions and tours of the canyon and cherry grove celebrate the onset of spring at this picturesque celebration in Balboa Park.
