As winter draws near, our minds have been turned to snow and cold and our favorite little Frozen character, Olaf! Do you want to build a snowman? If you are looking for a simple and cute Christmas craft, this is a perfect option. Our Olaf Stockings can be made from start to finish in under 30 minutes and are easy enough for the most basic seamstress. My six year old did the sewing on this project. When you're done, place your finished Olaf stockings above your fireplace, because Olaf thinks you're worth melting for.
You will need:
White Fleece (Two 12x12 squares per stocking)
Wonder Under
Felt Scraps in Black, White, and Orange
Sewing Supplies
Iron

To start, print the stocking pattern here, and cut it out. Place the pattern on a double layer of white fleece and cut. You will end up with two identical stocking pieces. Then, cut one rectangle that is 3 inches by 8.5 inches.
Layer your stocking pieces and sew around the outside edges, leaving the top open.
Turn the stocking right side out and press the edges out so that the shape looks good.
Tuck the rectangle piece inside the top of the stocking. The overlap (where the two ends meet) should be in the back of your stocking. Decide now what direction you want your stocking to hang. Then, sew along the top edge connecting the rectangle to the top of the stocking. Make sure to start from the inside of your stocking. Don't sew it closed.
Pull the rectangle up out of the stocking to look like this.
Then, just fold it over. The back will look like the photo below.
Your stocking is complete! Pretty easy, right? Now, it is time to put the Olaf face on it. This is what makes him a happy snowman.
Print out the Olaf Face Template here. You will not need to cut it out. It will just be used for tracing.
You will need black, white and orange felt. Cut a piece of each color that will fit all of the coordinating face pieces needed. The black is about 5x4 inches, white is about 4x4 inches, and orange is about 2x2 inches. Next, cut a piece of Wonder Under to fit the felt. You want your Wonder Under to be slightly smaller than the felt. If it exceeds the edges of the felt, then your ironing board will get a little bit sticky.
Trace the face shapes onto the Wonder Under. I put my paper on the window to get plenty of back light to help the shapes shine through the Wonder Under paper. You can probably do it without the window, it just makes it easier. There is a rough side and a smooth side to the Wonder Under. Place the rough side down and draw onto the smooth side.
Place the Wonder Under onto the coordinating felt, rough side down, and press a hot iron on top for 8-10 seconds. A bond will form and secure the two together. Then, cut out the shapes with your scissors.
Peel the Wonder Under off of the shapes. It will leave a glue layer on the felt.
Then, lay the pieces onto the stocking to get them in the right place.
Starting with the lowest layers, press a hot iron onto the face pieces. Make sure all of the pieces are on with the glue side down. You don't want to stick them to your iron! Keep adding pieces and pressing them on with the hot iron. It is best to put your iron on the fabric from just above and press it straight down. Don't push front to back, like you would when pressing wrinkles from a shirt. You don't want your little fabric shapes to shift. It only takes about 10 seconds of heavy pressure with the iron to secure them in place.
Once you have all of the face shapes on, you are finished!

He can be spotted in Fantasyland chatting with guests while they're waiting to greet Anna and Elsa at the Royal Reception. He also makes his way down Main Street U.S.A. as part of the pre-parade show, hangs out at the new Anna and Elsa Boutique in Downtown Disney (where you can even get an Olaf transformation!) and will be hosting World of Color-Winter Dreams now through January 6, 2015.
