Walt Disney World® Resort Overview
The Walt Disney World® Resort is composed of four theme parks, two water parks, and 19 Disney themed hotels as well as two others on-property. Also included as part of Walt Disney World® Resort are the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, the Downtown Disney® District, Disney’s Boardwalk, and DisneyQuest, and in-door theme park located inside the Downtown Disney® District. The entire Resort is expansive, so much so that it is impossible to do it all in only a few days. We highly recommend taking at least a full week to get the most out of your Walt Disney World® Resort vacation.
Walt Disney World® Resort Hotels
The Walt Disney World® Resort offers a wide variety of hotel options for every family. There are five Value Disney hotels to choose from, four Moderate Disney hotels, and 10 Deluxe Disney Hotels. There are also Deluxe Villas available that are part of the Deluxe Resorts and two non-Disney themed Deluxe Hotels (the Dolphin and the Swan) located on property. The higher the category of the hotel you select, the more amenities your property will have. However, all Disney hotels include transportation throughout the Resort, have themed swimming pools, and amazing Disney service. No matter what you are looking for, there is the perfect Disney World Resort Hotel for your Disney vacation.
Walt Disney World® Resort Area Hotels
In addition to a wide range of Disney hotels, Walt Disney World® Resort is surrounded by numerous hotels, condos, and even rental houses. You’ll find every popular chain from Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Hilton, Marriott, and beyond. These hotels may have extra amenities like continental breakfast and complimentary shuttle to the Walt Disney World Resort, but keep in mind that there is a good amount of extra travel time. Also, when staying off-property shuttle service may be limited and only drop off and pick-up in one location.
Magic Kingdom
Of all the Walt Disney World® Resort theme parks, the Magic Kingdom may be the most iconic with Cinderella’s Castle being the focal point. Patterned similarly to the original Disneyland® Park, the Magic Kingdom has six themed lands: Mainstreet USA, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Frontierland, Adventureland, and Liberty Square. Most recently, Fantasyland underwent a magical transformation with more immersive experiences and attractions in 26 acres.
Epcot
Epcot is arguably the second most iconic of the four Walt Disney World® Resort theme parks. Epcot is made up of two distinct lands: Future World and the World Showcase. Future World is home to Mission: SPACE, the most recognizable landmark of Epcot as well as incredible attractions. The World Showcase has 11 pavilions each highlighting a different country’s customs, culture, and food.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Park
Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Park is the largest animal-themed park in the world. Over 1,700 animals from 250 species make their home in one of seven areas intermixed with incredible attractions and shows. Disney’s Oasis, Disney’s Discovery Island, Disney’s Camp Minnie-Mickey, Disney’s Africa, Disney’s Rafiki’s Planet Watch®, Disney’s Asia, and Disney’s Dinoland offer so many incredible ways to explore.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
A giant version of The Sorcerer’s Hat welcomes you to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a theme park celebrating show business. Six themed areas each highlight a different era, advancement or aspect of film. Your family will love making their way through Hollywood Boulevard, Echo Lake, Streets of America, Animation Courtyard, Pixar Place and Sunset Boulevard.
Disney Water Parks
Walt Disney World® Resort is home to two Disney water parks—Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach. Disney’s Blizzard Beach features wintery water attractions, like the Toboggan Racers, the Slush Gusher, and Summit Plummet—one of the world’s largest water slides. Disney’s Typoon Lagoon is the mayhem of a water park left in the wake of a tropical storm. Typhoon remnants are surrounded by water slides like Keelhaul Falls, the Crush'n Gusher, and Humunga Kowabunga.
Downtown Disney® District
With more than 70 shopping, dining, and entertainment options, the Downtown Disney® District is divided into three sections—Downtown Disney West Side, Downtown Disney Marketplace and Pleasure Island—Downtown Disney. The West Side offers top notch dining, a 24 screen movie theatre, Cirque du Soleil La Nouba and DisneyQuest. The Marketplace is the perfect spot to shop with the largest Disney merchandise store in the world! Pleasure Island is an ever-changing destination committed to exciting and new experiences.
Disney’s Boardwalk
Disney's BoardWalk offers over 9,000 square feet of shops, restaurants and nightclubs. This popular area encompasses Crescent Lake and is "a village on the water" near many Walt Disney World® Resort hotels. Disney's BoardWalk is designed after the boardwalks that were famous during the turn of the 20th century along such New England coastal cities as Coney Island, New York and Atlantic City, New Jersey.
ESPN Wide World of Sports
The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex is a 220-acre sports facility located in the Walt Disney World® Resort and a sports lover’s paradise. Hosting nearly 200 amateur and professional events each year, this spectacular complex can accommodate more than 50 sports and is the Atlanta Braves spring training home.
