One of the most popular party guests of all time is a very friendly mouse named Mickey! Mickey Mouse themed events never go out of style. If you are having a Disney celebration (or any celebration), this Mickey Mouse Donut Cake is a simple and fun way to put together a wonderful treat without a lot of special cake decorating skills or supplies. And the kids just love combining two delicious favorites, donuts and cake, into one yummy dessert.

You will need:
Star frosting tip

Bake the cakes and let them cool. Then lay wax paper out on the counter top. Snip the five mini marshmallows in half to make the buttons. Warm up a small amount of white baking chocolate in the microwave and mix in a few drops of yellow food coloring. Dip the marshmallows into the chocolate and place them on the wax paper to cool.

Next, lay the chocolate donuts onto the wax paper. Warm up about one cup of white baking chips in a dish in the microwave. Stir it every 30 seconds until all of the chocolate is melted. Add several drops of red food coloring into the chocolate and stir.

Spread the chocolate over the bottom half of each chocolate donut and immediately place the marshmallow buttons into place while the chocolate is still gooey. Let them cool.

Stick the small donut ears onto each Mickey body using toothpicks.

While the donuts are cooling, frost the cake. It takes quite a bit of frosting to cover this size of cake, so I recommend using a double batch of a standard cake frosting recipe. Stack the cakes using a layer of frosting between each layer.

I used a large star frosting tip to frost this cake. Squeeze the frosting up and down as you go around the cake horizontally. Mickey is a whimsical fun character, so I wasn't too worried about making the frosting perfect. Just have fun!

Stick the donut Mickeys onto the frosted cake. I found that they were a little bit heavy, so it might be best to line the bottom of the cake with the Mickey donuts with the bottom of the donut resting on the cake stand. If you want the donuts to be hanging on the cake like the ones in the picture, then secure them in place with wooden skewers or toothpicks. That will help take the weight off the frosting.

Place a wooden skewer through one of the Mickey donuts and use it on the top of the cake as your cake topper! It's as simple as that!
