If you are craving an adventure in the kitchen, then check out these delicious homemade Nutella Pop Tarts! I don't know about you, but my family goes absolutely nuts over Nutella. The sweet hazelnut flavored spread is almost impossible for me to keep stocked in the cupboards. My kids spread it on everything.
When I saw that Disney had created a hazelnut Adventure Tart for Pixar Fest this summer, I decided I had to give it a try. The Disney version is sold at the Jolly Holiday Bakery on Main Street U.S.A. in Disneyland. It is filled with hazelnut spread and then the tart is covered in a sugary glaze. Keep in mind that Disney made it...so, the tart also has an adorable picture of the house and helium balloons from the Pixar movie UP printed on the front. It is really quite adorable. The taste will take you up, up and away to a very happy place.
Making homemade Nutella Pop Tarts is ridiculously easy. The baked version put the packaged toaster tarts to shame! My kids won't even eat the boxed version now. They are totally spoiled. Grab your little ones and let them help with the process. They can earn their Wilderness Explorer baking badge! Kids love baking, especially when they can sample the ingredients.
UP- Inspired Nutella Pop Tarts Recipe
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Set your pie crust out of the refrigerator so that it warms to room temperature. I buy the Pillsbury brand. It is located by the eggs and butter at the grocery store.
Unroll the two circles and lay them on top of each other so they are stacked. Place them on a cutting board.
Slice the dough into squares. I use a pizza cutter to do the slicing! Roll the leftover dough scraps out flat and repeat the process.
Melt about 1/3 stick of butter in a bowl.
Lay the squares out in their pairs. Put a thin layer of butter on the dough. Scoop a teaspoon of Nutella on one side and spread it out so that it spreads evenly over the surface. Leave about a 1/4 inch section around the edges.
Place the matching dough on top of the Nutella. Seal the two halves together with a fork. Press around the edges with the tip of the fork to make the pretty indentation marks.
Add a coating of butter to the top pastry and then place it on the parchment paper.
Repeat the process for each of your Nutella Pop Tarts.
Bake the Nutella Pop Tarts in the oven for 10-12 minutes. The butter coating will help the pastry crust brown nicely. They are ready when the crust is golden brown.
While the tarts are baking, make the glaze. In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup evaporated milk, 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 T melted butter, a drop of vanilla and a dash of salt. Mix them together unit the glaze has a nice smooth consistency. It should be a little bit runny.
Spread the glaze over the tops of the Nutella Pop Tarts. It will absorb into the crust a little bit and then harden as the dessert cools. It is seriously yummy.
Eat them while they are warm! I know why Disney named them Adventure Tarts, they are an experience to eat.
Make sure to check out the new Pixar Pier while you are at the Disneyland Resort. There is an adorable UP-inspired backdrop with a huge bunch of balloons on it. It’s a photo-must. And you can enjoy the Adventure Tart during Pixar Fest, which runs until September 3rd. You won't want to miss it and can celebrate the upcoming trip with your very own Nutella Pop Tarts!
