Road trips are some of my very favorite family memories. Being in the car with kids can be enjoyable and fun -- if you plan ahead! I had the pleasure of taking my family on a California adventure to Disneyland recently. Before we set off on our 12 hour drive, I put together these Disneyland Road Trip Surprise Bags to keep us entertained while on the road. I couldn't believe how much fun we all had anticipating opening each new package. My four kids loved watching for Mickey's landmarks and clues. It was one of the best car rides in our road trip history. I hope your family enjoys them as much as we did!

If you are traveling from the Salt Lake City area to Anaheim, you can print the off Mickey Tags from our site that are already loaded with clues. (Mickey Tags Set #1 / Mickey Tags Set #2) Or if you are heading on a road trip from a different location or want to make your own personalized clues, then you can print off the Blank Mickey Tags and write your clues in the open spaces with a Sharpie. There are so many fun things to look for as you drive. Use landmarks, mile markers, cities or common items that are found along the road! Kids love the adventure and excitement of it all.
Then, cut out the clues and tape them onto the red party bags.
Once all of the bags have a clue on the front, fill them with goodies! There are so many different fun things you can put in the bags to keep your family whole entertained. Some ideas we had were: snacks, drinks, music CDs, Mad Lib story books, sticker books, joke books, coloring supplies, a DVD and so much more.
I like to use the public library to get supplies. You can check out really cute picture books with an audio CD included. The kids listen to the story and follow along with the book. It is a great alternative to movies. But you can also check out so many fun DVDs for free there too. Many of the Disney Classics are available to borrow. It is also convenient to rent DVDs from Redbox because you can check them out in your hometown and return them to any Redbox location in the country. If the item you want to put in the bag is too bit to fit, just bring it in a separate tote. Place a note into the Mickey bag that tells the kids what the item is and then pull it out of your bigger tote. I had a few items that were done this way and it worked great!
When all the bags are filled, fold over the tops and secure them with tape. You don't want any little eyes peaking at the surprise before it is time.
Now you can break down the long hours in the car with the opening of your cute bags full of fresh activities, entertainment and snacks! It makes the journey so much more fun for everyone.

Des- Good question! That will depend on how often you want to hand out the bags, and how long you plan to make your drive. How many stops will you be making? Are you driving or flying? Some road-tripping families like to do it on the hour, but if you're going to include a Disney movie in a bag, you may wait until the movie is over to hand out another bag. Also, how many kids you're traveling with will affect how many bags you want.

How do you keep the bags orderly? I'm picturing limited space for other items at the beginning of the trip and torn red pieces of paper all over the car at the end.
