Disneyland Halloween Apples are found throughout the Disneyland Resort during this spooktacular time of year. They are by far one of the most popular seasonal treats at Disneyland. We loved the ooey gooey goodness of the Dirt and Worms Apples so much that we recreated them here for you.

Trick or treat, give me something good to eat! Disneyland never falls short on giving us something good to eat during Halloween Time. There are delightful festive foods around every turn. Just like everything else Disney creates, the treats are filled with imagination and fun. In addition to their standard assortment of Disneyland Halloween apples, the Resort offers an apple of the month. Take a trip back to your childhood with these gooey Dirt and Worms apples, which just happen to be Disneyland's caramel apple of the month.

We have an apple tree in our backyard, and I will tell you that worms love apples. Luckily, the worms in this recipe are the tasty edible kind. Between rolling the apples in the cookie crumb "dirt" and sticking the gummy worms on the top, making these apples will be fun for boys and ghouls of all ages! So, get ready to get your hands dirty with this perfectly delicious fall treat - inspired by the confectioners at Disneyland. And, only available at Disneyland until Halloween.

For these Disneyland Halloween apples , you will need:
3 Large Granny Smith Apples
2 T Water

To start, wash and dry the apples. Push a caramel apple dowel into the center of each apple to create a handle. I like Granny Smith apples for this recipe because they are naturally sour. The toppings on caramel apples are typically very sweet, so the sour apples offer a good balance of flavor.

Unwrap the caramels and place them in microwave safe bowl. Add 2 T of water to thin the caramel. Choose a bowl that is large enough to fit an apple into, but not too big. You want the caramel to be thick in the bottom. Melt the caramel in the microwave in two 45 second increments, stirring after the first one. You want it to be smooth and melted.

Roll the apples into the caramel so that they are coated in it. Set them on a sheet of wax paper and let the caramel coating set up. It shouldn't take very long at all.

Scrape the filling from the Oreo cookies and place just the chocolate cookie portion into a large ziplock bag. I used about 16 cookies for my three apples. Seal the bag and then crush the cookies into crumbs with a rolling pin. Place the cookie crumbs onto a plate.

The next step for your Disneyland Halloween apples is to melt 1.5 cups of real chocolate chips in the microwave. I like to turn the power down to about 60 percent to allow the chocolate to melt slowly. Just like the caramel, I do 45 seconds at a time and stir after each increment.

Roll the caramel apples in the chocolate and then cover them in the cookie crumb dirt. It is even more fun than playing in the dirt in the backyard. Licking your fingers after this step is a must!

Once all of the apples are coated in chocolate and dirt, it is time to make them look fancy, which is really where the Disneyland Halloween apples come into their own. Get your gummy worms ready and place 1/2 cup of white chocolate in a small bowl. Melt the white chocolate in the microwave for 45 seconds on power level 6. Stir it until all of the chips are melted and it is smooth.

Drizzle the melted chocolate over the apples and then quickly place the worms around the top of the apple. Use the chocolate to secure them in place like delicious glue. Unlike some of the other Disneyland Halloween apples, these can be a little (or a lot) messy!

Once the chocolate sets up, the worms will be secure in their place and your Disneyland Halloween apples will be ready to eat. I hope you have a fun time creating these gooey fun apples with your family.

When my family and I were at Disneyland a few weeks ago, we had the best time watching the amazing Disney confectioners decorate some of the fun Disneyland Halloween apples at Marcelines Confectionary in the Downtown Disney District. We loved the Mickey Pumpkin apples, Jack Skellington apples, and of course, these. There is a big window outside the shop that showcases the candy makers in action. Take a few minutes to watch the magical process during your next stroll through Downtown Disney.

You can also get the Dirt and Worm and other Disneyland Halloween apples at the Candy Palace on Main Street U.S.A. in Disneyland and Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure Park. If you can't make it to Halloween Time at Disneyland this year, you can already start planning for next year. And as a real treat, you can hold your vacation for just $125 down.
