Buena Vista Street

The very first place you’ll enter when you walk through Disney California Adventure® Park’s maingate is Buena Vista Street, and you’ll feel like you've stepped back in time. This entertainment hotspot is bursting with activity and enthusiasm. It’s easy to see why Walt was smitten with the city when he arrived in 1923. Buena Vista Street is set against the magnificent backdrop of the Carthay Circle Theatre, where Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs first premiered. Buena Vista Street normally opens 30 minutes before the rest of the park, so it’s a good idea to get there early. It’s the best way to start your day at the park!

Here is an overview of what you’ll find at Buena Vista Street:

Buena Vista Street Attractions:

Red Car Trolley
Take a ride along Buena Vista Street through Hollywood Land aboard a red car trolley. Once aboard you can stay on as long as you’d like. Or, feel free to hop off at any one of its four stops: Buena Vista Entry Plaza, Carthay Circle Restaurant, Animation Academy and Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission - BREAKOUT!.

As of 2019, the Red Car Trolleys are currently closed for a long refurbishment. The cars are expected to reopen when Disney California Adventure® Park’s Avengers Campus, opening in Summer 2020.

Buena Vista Street Entertainment:

Citizens of Buena Vista Street
One of the most charming aspects of Buena Vista Street are the residents. When you spend enough time in the area, you may just meet one or more of the citizens of Buena Vista Street roaming and mingling with park guests. There are five citizens total: two officers, two sisters that regularly deliver packages (or a telegram from Mickey) and a world traveler/photographer.

Five & Dime
Enjoy live jazz from the Five & Dime performers as they make their way through Buena Vista Street. The Five are musicians that have just arrived from Chicago… and Dime is their fabulous vocalist. Goofy also makes an appearance in this 20 minute musical extravaganza.

Buena Vista Street Dining:

Carthay Circle Restaurant
For an experience you'll remember forever, be sure to dine at the Carthay Circle Restaurant. Award-winning chef, Andrew Sutton, uses locally sourced and in-season ingredients in his ever changing menu. You can order off the menu à la carte, or purchase a dining package that includes premium viewing for World of Color, Frozen - Live at the Hyperion or, occasionally, other seasonal entertainment options. Dining packages usually include a three-course prix-fixe menu. No matter what you order, a meal at Carthay Circle is perfect for a special occasion. Of course, any trip to Disneyland® is a special occasion! Because of its popularity, reservations go quickly. You’ll want to make reservations as early as possible, which is 60 days in advance.

Carthay Circle Lounge
If you’re short on time, or can’t get a reservation for Carthay Circle Restaurant, but still want to enjoy its menu, head to the Carthay Circle Lounge. The lounge is located downstairs in the Carthay Circle Theater building and offers a limited menu from upstairs. It’s a wonderful place to unwind.

Clarabelle's Hand-Scooped Ice Cream
There’s nothing quite like a hand-dipped ice cream bar made just for you. Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream is a hidden gem that features gourmet ice cream concoctions. Its menu regularly has seasonal items that can only be found for a limited time. And, Clarabelle’s offers mobile ordering to make your life sweeter.

Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe
The first ever Starbucks® on Disneyland® property was housed at the Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe. To this day, it remains one of the most popular Starbucks® locations in the country. Not only will you find your favorite Starbucks® beverages, you can also find pastries and hearty sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner. As a tip, it can get pretty busy in the mornings, so try to get there within that 30 minute window before the park opens. If you don’t get there before then, you may want to skip the coffee line and hit the rides instead when ride queues are shortest.

Mortimer's Market
One of the first dining options you’ll see when you enter Disney California Adventure® Park is Mortimer’s Market. You’ll find fresh fruit, veggies, chips and other snacks at this corner spot. It’s a great place to grab a quick refreshment on your way in or out of the park.

Popcorn near Carthay Circle Restaurant
The name of this spot is pretty straight forward. The popcorn stand near Carthay Circle Restaurant sells that famous, buttery Disneyland® popcorn and scrumptious caramel corn. Yum! Watch for specialty popcorn buckets available at certain times throughout the year.

Willie's Churros
Willie’s Churros should be the first stop in anyone’s visit to Disney California Adventure® Park. Here you’ll find the classic sweet treats. You’ll also be able to get seasonal churros from time to time.

Buena Vista Street Shopping:

Atwater Ink & Paint
You can find calendars, mugs, kitchenware, collectible pins and other souvenirs at this quaint shop named for L.A.’s art district during the 1920s.

Big Top Toys
Themed after Dumbo, you’ll step into a circus tent full of any Disney-themed plush, doll, toy or trinket you can think of. With all of the cuteness that exists in Big Top Toys, you’ll have a hard time leaving empty-handed.

Elias & Co.
You’d expect a store named after Walt’s middle name to be classic, and Elias & Co. doesn’t disappoint. This store features a number of unique and collectible items including period-era dresses, Dooney & Bourke handbags, jewelry and other high-end items.

Julius Katz & Sons
You’ll find the perfect souvenir at Julius Katz & Sons. Everything from phone covers to beach towels and everything in between can be found here. Misting fans, collectible pins, throw pillows, kitchen gadgets and other fun trinkets are abundant at Julius Katz & Sons.

Kingswell Camera Shop
Although hard to find, you’ll be glad you did, especially if your memory card is full. Kingswell Camera Shop has everything you need relating to your Disney photos. You can buy memory cards and batteries for your own camera, picture frames, as well as photo albums and templates for all of your fabulous PhotoPass pics you had taken during your vacation.

Los Feliz Five & Dime
Themed after a vintage store of the same name, Los Feliz Five & Dime sells t-shirts, hats, photo books and other Disney vacation merchandise.

Oswald's
Dedicated to Walt Disney’s first animation, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, this shop is the only place you can find merchandise themed after its namesake. Not only will you find darling Oswald themed items, the store looks like it’s housed in an old-fashioned gas station.

Trolley Treats
No visit to Disney California Adventure® Park is complete without a stop at Trolley Treats, home to the sweetest finds. Cake pops, caramel apples, giant cookies and other concoctions are on display for purchase. You can even see many of these sweet treats being made through the shop windows. Additionally, you’ll find pre-packaged goodies of both the sweet and salty variety. Grab them as a snack while you’re in the parks, or take them home as a tasty souvenir.

Buena Vista Street Seasonal Celebrations

Buena Vista Street gets completely decked out for the season, no matter what that season may be. During Halloween Time you’ll find a giant headless horseman statue and bats swirling around the Carthay Circle Restaurant tower. Then, for the holidays, you’ll stand in awe of the 60 foot Christmas tree, a focal point of Buena Vista Street. You’ll also love walking along the street and seeing all of the trimmings and trappings of the season. If you’re meeting the Characters on Buena Vista Street, they’ll also be dressed for the occasion.

Buena Vista Street Tips

The biggest mistake we see people make in Buena Vista Street is rushing through it. Take the time to really soak it all in. Interact with the residents and you may even find yourself with a free newspaper of the day to take home as a souvenir.

One of the most photographed spots in all of Disney California Adventure® Park is located in Buena Vista Street. The Storytellers statue is a bronze statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse as they arrive in California, similar in look and feel to the Partners statue located in Disneyland® Park. Don’t forget to grab your photo by this iconic spot.

If you’re thinking of dining at Carthay Circle Restaurant, consider booking a dining package for World of Color. You’ll have a wonderful meal and then an even better view for the nighttime spectacular. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance, which is what we recommend.
