Here at Get Away Today, we love setting sail to explore the world and Royal Caribbean Cruises are at the top of our must-do list!

Our team recently set sail on the Maiden Voyage and the following sailing of Icon of the Seas and we have your ultimate guide from our first hand experience aboard a ship that is truly iconic.

Icon of the Seas Quick Look

Royal Caribbean Cruise line has more than 30 ships in use or announced and somehow they keep reinventing cruising in the best possible way. In fact, this new ship is now the leader in a class of its own—the “Icon Class” adds more fun and more luxury to every sailing.
  • Set Sail: 2024
  • Sleeps up To: Four in Standard Staterooms, Six in Balcony Staterooms, and up to Eight in select Royal Suites.
  • Ports of Call: Western and Eastern Caribbean, plus your Perfect Day at Coco Cay
  • Best Price Guarantee: Yes, when you book your cruise with Get Away Today
The Icon of the Seas fits just over 7,500 passengers in its 2,805 staterooms at full capacity. It’s truly a vacation-style neighborhood at sea.

Another detail we loved (and there are so many!) is how simple the safety briefing process is. You complete the safety training on your Royal Caribbean Cruise app and then check in at your muster station at your leisure on boarding day.

Icon of the Seas Staterooms & Suites

During the Maiden Voyage we were able to tour a variety of staterooms and suites aboard Icon. We love giving this insider look to you so you can decide which stateroom will best fit your group.

One thing we absolutely love is how Icon of the Seas was designed for family travel. In fact, 80% of the staterooms aboard are either connecting rooms or suites. It truly makes family vacations that much easier.

We particularly love the Surfside neighborhood for families, it puts you right in the action for kids clubs, family dining, entertainment and more.

Royal Caribbean Private Island Coco Cay

When you sail an itinerary that includes a Perfect Day at Coco Cay, the ship will pull right up to the dock so you can walk or ride a tram to all the action. This is Royal Caribbean’s private island that hosts various beaches like South Beach, Hideaway Beach (adults only) and more.

There are tons of activities, both lively and relaxing. Tons of lounge chairs, sports courts, beautiful white sand beaches, water sport rentals, an expansive kids splash area and a huge water slide for all your thrill seekers coming to Coco Cay.

We particularly love the option to purchase a day pass to the private club on Coco Cay which includes an exclusive infinity pool looking over the ocean, your own bar and restaurant.

They also have various cabanas—including floating cabanas with water slides—that sell out quickly. The floating cabanas accommodate up to 8 guests and food is included.

No matter what you choose to do on Coco Cay you will absolutely love exploring or simply soaking the day away in the sunshine.

Icon of the Seas Food & Dining

There are more than 40 dining experiences on the Icon of the Seas! It’s hard to believe and even harder to eat your way through each one during one sailing.

We were able to tour and sample bites from a few of the dining locations aboard and we can’t say enough good things about the variety of options available.

During our first to sailings aboard, some of our favorites include:
  • Chops Grille located in Central Park is the signature American steakhouse featuring cuts like high-grade wagyu beef and bone-in tomahawks. The open kitchen concept allows you to watch as seasoned chefs perfectly prepare your premium selection to your liking and serve it alongside your choice of savory sides.
  • Izumi Hibachi & Sushi where you can feast al fresco in Central Park. The scallops were an easy 10/10 in our book.
  • Sorrentos is a pizza parlor staple on Royal Caribbean and is open for slices of delicious eats from 11:00 am to 2:00 am.
  • El Loco Fresh is a colorful, vibrant fiesta serving burritos, chips and salsa, tacos and more Mexican favorites.
  • The Grove is exclusive for suite guests and offers light bites, full bar and features tons of plush, colorful seating.

Icon of the Seas Entertainment

Royal Caribbean serves up the boldest shows at sea — and on the Icon of the Seas you can see a full scale production of the classic, Wizard of Oz. Our team saw it first and had this to say about the show,

“We were lucky to get to see this full show for the first time it was shown to an audience outside of Royal Caribbean staff . . . The show has everything you love about the original film and then some! The music—including a live orchestra, the special effects, the characters you know and love, the costumes, EVERYTHING about this show is iconic.”

Not only can you watch entertainment, you can be part of it in the Karaoke lounge which is open to families and then adults only during select hours.

Spotlight-stealing original productions in the Main Theater like Flight, Piano Man and Gallery of Dreams. Spectacular showcases of acrobatics, synchronized swimming and captivating high-dives at the open-air AquaTheater.

And awe-inspiring shows on ice filled with mesmerizing spins, lifts and jumps by world-class professional figure skaters. From musicals you can sing along to and stunt shows that will keep you at the edge of your seat, to cheeky adult game shows and comedians that keep the belly-laughs coming all night — this is entertainment on a cruise like never before.

They’re also the only cruise line to offer Tony Award winning shows at sea!

Icon of the Seas Clubs and Lounges

Loads of laughter and unforgettable experiences go hand-in-hand when cruising with your kids. Royal Caribbean’s games, events, and cruise activities for kids are going on all over the ship throughout the day and into the evening hours, making family time a great time. There’s really something for everyone on board:
  • Teen Lounge
  • Adventure Science Lab
  • Aquanauts
  • Imagination Studio
  • Adventure Ocean Theater
  • Baby & Tots Program

Icon of the Seas Pool & More

Icon of the Seas has the largest waterpark at sea and Surfside is a family’s dream! With six record-breaking slides like the Frightening Bolt, the tallest waterslide to sail. And the Pressure Drop, the first open freefall waterslide on a cruise.

There is a pool for every mood— seven pools, nine whirlpools and sweeping ocean views all around — you’ll always feel connected to the sea. Whether you’re looking for upbeat party scenes or family-friendly hangs and restful retreats, the Icon has a spot for you.

Kids will also love the on board carousel. They can choose to sit in an ice cream sundae bowl on a narwhal’s back, ride an octopus with swim goggles, jump on a scuba diving pineapple and more.

In Central Park you’ll find a lively neighborhood with live plants, birds and a peaceful space with 20% more trees than the Oasis Class.

If you want to keep up with your fitness regime while aboard this ship has the best, most complete gym and fitness center we have ever seen! Just to give you an idea of how big the gym space is—the track surrounding is a mile with just 2 ½ laps! There’s even a huge spin room. We love all the options.
