There’s something magical about spending a summer day in Disneyland. You get to enjoy long park hours and fewer ride closures, plus the newest entertainment and park additions. Speaking of new things about the park, have you heard about the Summer of Heroes at Disneyland? It began in Disney California Adventure on May 27^th and will run through September 10^th, 2017 It’s a dream-come-true for Marvel fans everywhere!

The Summer of Heroes at Disneyland brings both permanent and limited time experiences to Disney California Adventure Park at the Disneyland Resort. It’s one of the must-see events happening there, especially for the little super heroes in your life. It may be one of the best reasons to plan a family vacation to Disneyland this summer, too.

We know you must be wondering; what is Summer of Heroes at Disneyland? Don’t worry, we have everything you need to know about it! First, let’s start off with the permanent experiences the Summer of Heroes is bringing to Disney California Adventure:

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! This new attraction has caused quite a buzz since replacing the Tower of Terror ride that closed earlier this year. While we loved the Tower of Terror, to see the Guardians of the Galaxy come to life has been AWESOME! You’ll be welcomed by the iconic music and characters from the first film as well as the same mechanisms from the old ride (but even more intense), making the Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! a perfect combination of past and future. The fact that Joe Rhode was the main man for the design lets us know that this ride is amazing!

Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off! Guests will be able to interact with the Guardians, all while rocking out to some great tunes at this awesome dance off. The new dance party debuts during the Summer of Heroes at Disneyland and is sure to be a hit. We’ve been told this will be similar to the Mad T Party previously at California Adventure, but with a Guardians of the Galaxy twist. Gamora may just stand back and watch, but the rest of the Guardians are sure to show off some moves once Star-Lord fires up the ol’ boom-box. Your kids – and you – will have a blast dancing with some of your favorite Marvel characters.  

Super Hero Encounters. Captain America and Spider-Man have been hanging around Hollywood Land in Disney California Adventure for a while now. The Summer of Heroes at Disneyland will bring a Marvel superstar that hasn’t been seen in Hollywood Land before. That’s right, you’ll be able to come face-to-face with Groot himself starting on May 27^th! Just don’t be surprised if “I. Am. Groot.” becomes an oft-repeated phrase during your Disneyland vacation.

While these events will be available at the park year-round, we suggest seeing them this summer. You’ll be able to take advantage of longer park hours to enjoy Summer of Heroes to the fullest, along with limited time experiences in Disneyland like the Main Street Electrical Light Parade. Plus, the Summer of Heroes at Disneyland will be bringing limited time experiences to Disney California Adventure that will only be available through September 10^th. Here’s all the fun you’d be missing if you didn’t visit this summer:

Avengers Training Initiative. Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to become an Avenger? You’ll be able to find out with the Avengers Training Initiative during the Summer of Heroes at Disneyland. Black Widow and Hawkeye will assemble young recruits to try and complete a series super hero tasks. Only those with true potential will pass and join the Avenger ranks during this limited time experience!  

Heroic Encounter: Black Widow. Another super hero will be joining Captain America, Spider-Man and Groot in Hollywood Land for a limited time. Black Widow will be arriving on the scene in her armored Avengers vehicle throughout each day of Summer of Heroes. It’s sure to be a heroic encounter that you’ll want to have your camera ready for. Black Widow can’t be away from Headquarters too long, so make sure to catch her before she gets back to business on September 10^th.

Free face painting and super hero sorting. From now until September 10th, your whole family can get their face painted for free at Disney California Adventure! Plus, you'll be able to take a test and find out what super hero you are. It's a fun and free activity you won't want to miss during the Summer of Heroes. 

Specialty themed food and merchandise. If you love all things Marvel, there’s not a better time to visit the parks. During the Summer of Heroes at Disneyland, you’ll be able to get specialty food and merchandise in Disney California Adventure. We can only imagine all the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers souvenirs and treats that will be available for this limited time event!

So, what is the Summer of Heroes at Disneyland? It’s an action-packed event with fun for the whole family. Both young and old Marvel fans will be able to unite over their love of all-things super hero as they experience the Summer of Heroes in Disney California Adventure. While the Guardians of the Galaxy ride, dance off and Groot encounter will be available year-round, the Avengers Training, Black Widow encounter and specialty souvenirs will fade away after September 10^th.
