Disneyland Temporary Closure 2020

By Kimberly Fidler 03/31/2020

UPDATED MARCH 31, 2020: As of March 14, 2020 the theme parks of the Disneyland Resort will be closed until further notice due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. The original annoucement of a closure through March 31, 2020 is no longer accurate. The Hotels of the Disneyland Resort remained open through March 16, 2020 to help anyone who was currently traveling make arrangements to get home. The Downtown Disney District will remain partially open, as all Disney owned and operated shops and restaurants will temporarily close. As of right now, most stores in Downtown Disney have chosen to close.

Disneyland Temporary Closure 2020

While this is still a developing story, we have provided the answers we know for the most commonly asked questions regarding Disney closures. Para información en español, haga clic aquí

Why is the Disneyland Resort closed?

Although there have not been any reported cases of COVID-19 (commonly referred to as "coronavirus") at the Disneyland Resort, they have taken preventive measures under the guidance of the Governor of California and CDC.

When will the Disneyland Resort be closed?

Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park were both closed beginning on Saturday, March 14, 2020 and will continue to be closed until further notice. Disney is working closely with both health and government officials to monitor the situation. Although it does not suggest a reopening date, Disney has confirmed that it will pay all hourly Cast Members through April 18, 2020.

The Hotels of the Disneyland Resort followed suit and closed on March 16, 2020. Most stores in the Downtown Disney District are also closed during this time.

When will Disneyland reopen?

As of right now, Disneyland does not have a scheduled reopening date. By leaving this open-ended, Disney is allowing flexibility of reopening as soon as it's safe to do so. This page will be updated frequently as more information becomes available.

What if I have a Disneyland vacation booked during the emergency closure?

If you currently have a Disneyland vacation booked from now until April 18, 2020, we encourage you to reschedule for a later date. We are waiving all rescheduling fees. You can call our agents at 855-GET-AWAY or send us a direct message on Facebook. We are responding to messages and helping people reschedule as quickly as possible.

We are trying to help guests who have a vacation scheduled for travel within 72 hours first.

If you feel as though you need to completely cancel your reservation, you may do so without any fees if you purchased our Peace of Mind Plan. If you did not purchase Peace of Mind, you may cancel vacation packages for just $150 and ticket only orders for just $50. As of right now, Get Away Today is the ONLY company that is able to refund any Disneyland tickets at all. And remember, you can reschedule your entire vacation in full with NO fees at all.

We are also keeping our COVID-19 Travel Update page current with the latest travel information.

I was on vacation at the Disneyland Resort during the announced closure, now what?

Disneyland announced that guests who were not able to use the entirety of their ticket due to the park closure have until the end of 2020 to use the remaining days on their ticket. If you purchased your Disneyland tickets on or before Feb. 20, 2020, you have until December 31, 2020 to use the remaining portion of your ticket. If you purchased your Disneyland tickets on or after Feb. 21, 2020, you will have until December 31, 2021 to use the remainder of your tickets. Please note that Disneyland is not offering any type of refund on these tickets at this time.

What if I have a Disneyland vacation booked in April?

At this time, we do not know when the Disneyland Resort will be back to full operations. If you are currently booked for travel April 1-18, 2020, we will send you an email. Hotel stays booked with Get Away Today are being auto cancelled and applied as account credits for you to use when you are able to book new dates. You can use your credit online, just select account credit as your form of payment when you check out. If you would like to reschedule your vacation, you may do so with no reschedule fees. If you choose to cancel, the regular cancellation fees of $150 for packages and $50 for ticket only orders will apply unless you have the Peace of Mind Plan.

Will the Disney closure affect my Kids Spring special tickets?

Previously, the Kids Spring ticket special was valid for use through May 21, 2020. However, due to the recent Disneyland Resort closures, the Kids Spring special has now been extended for travel through December 15, 2020. Please note that the entirety of your ticket needs to be used by December 15, 2020. This ticket will expire and will no longer be valid after this date. If you have not used any of the days of your Kids Spring Special ticket, all days still must be used within 13 days of the first day of use, and no later than December 15, 2020. If you choose to cancel those tickets, any cancellations must be made by May 15, 2020. Regular cancellation policies will apply.

How will the Disney closure affect my Southern California Resident discount tickets?

Similarly, the Southern California Resident offer has been extended for use for travel on a day-by-day basis. Previously, guests who purchased this ticket offer had until May 21, 2020 to use this special. We will not know what the new expiration date is until we know when the Disneyland Resort will reopen. Because it is going to be on a day-by-day basis, we can assume that if the Disneyland Resort remains closed for 30 days, that the new expiration date would be June 20, 2020. Once Disneyland reopens, they will announce a firm expiration date. Please note that this ticket must be used in its entirety on the new expiration date, once it has been announced. This ticket will expire and will no longer be valid after the newly announced date.

How does the closure impact my Disneyland Resort annual pass?

Disneyland announced that once the Park reopens, the expiration of your annual pass will be extended by the amount of time that the Parks were closed. Additionally, if you're on a monthly payment plan, you will continue to make payments. However, you won't make extra payments once your current expiration date is hit. For more information regarding annual passes, please visit Disneyland's offical website.

When should I rebook my Disneyland vacation?

We recommend booking as soon as you know your dates. While this emergency closure is unprecedented, there is so much to be excited about coming to the Disneyland Resort. Here is a quick at-a-glance of things to look forward to:

  • Rise of the Resistance at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge
  • 'Magic Happens' Parade
  • Kids Spring Savings and SoCal Resident Offer - Dates extended for travel. See paragraph above for more information.
  • Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort (mid-September-October 31st)
  • Holidays at the Disneyland Resort (mid-November-early January 2021)

Do I have to know my travel dates to reschedule?

Nope! We can leave your total travel credit in your account and can reschedule once you have some time to check your schedule. You'll just select your account credit as your form of payment.

How far out can I reschedule my Disneyland vacation?

Right now we will allow you to reschedule with no fees into 2021. We can help you reschedule right away, or if you're not sure of your travel dates, you can keep your entire travel credit from your 2020 vacation until you're ready to book.

What is happening at the Disneyland Resort this spring?

What other theme parks are closed due to Covid 19?
