UPDATED June 25, 2021: After over a year of being closed, the Disneyland Resort re-opened to California residents on April 30, 2021 to California residents and to out-of-state visitors on June 15, 2021. We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome back our guests to the Disneyland Resort and other Southern California theme parks! Keep reading this article to learn everything you need to know about Disneyland's reopening, reservation system and more.

When will Disneyland reopen?

We hope you know by know that the Disneyland Resort is now open to all! The State of California released guidelines that would allow California theme parks, including Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, to reopen. Under the most recent state guidelines, the Disneyland Resort reopened on April 30, 2021 to California residents. The Disneyland Resort began welcoming out-of-state guests on June 15, 2021.
The Disneyland Resort is now open! We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome everyone back to "The Happiest Place on Earth!"

Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort has been successfully reopened since July 9, 2020. Buena Vista Street, a small part of Disney California Adventure Park, was opened for shopping and dining as an extension of Downtown Disney through March 14, 2021.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa reopened on April 29, 2021. Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel reopened on June 15, 2021, while The Disneyland Hotel is scheduled to reopen on July 2, 2021.

Top Questions about Disneyland Reopening

Since Walt Disney World's successful opening in July 2020, we have gotten a lot of questions about how this affects the Disneyland Resort. So we wanted to let you know what we know – and keep in mind we will ONLY share official messages from Disney. We don’t report on rumors – and there are a lot out there. But of course, we're getting more and more answers as Disneyland continues to fully reopen. Now, onto our top questions:

Do I have to be a California resident to go to Disneyland now that has reopened?

No! As of June 15, 2021, out-of-state residents are able to visit the Disneyland Resort, as long as you have both a valid theme park ticket and theme park reservation.

Will I need a reservation to go to Disneyland?

Yes, you will need a reservation in order to visit the Disneyland Resort. All guests ages 3 and older will need a valid theme park ticket AND a theme park reservation in order to visit the Disneyland Resort. There is no need for guests age two and under to have a theme park reservation. At this time, guests can make reservations to visit the Disneyland Resort within a 120-day rolling window. You can purchase discounted Disneyland tickets for travel through 12/31/2022 through Get Away Today right now and make your theme park reservations as they become available. Just enter the date you'd like to go when buying your tickets, and we'll send you a reminder when it's time to make your Disneyland reservations.

Guests will be able to make reservations to visit the Disneyland Resort through Disneyland’s new reservation system by clicking HERE.

How do I buy tickets for Disneyland now that it has reopened?

We are now selling Disneyland Resort tickets to all guests! You can easily purchase our discounted Disneyland tickets on our website, or by calling our reservation agents at 855-GET-AWAY during regular business hours. When you purchase new tickets with Get Away Today, your tickets will be valid for travel through December 31, 2022.

Will Disneyland sell out when it reopens?

As of right now, the Disneyland Resort is managing theme park attendance through a reservation system, and theme park reservations can sell out. Although Disney does not release theme park capacity information, we do know from previous state guidelines that the are operating at reduced capacity. Since the state guidelines have lifted, Disney is looking to slowly increase theme park capacity. It's worth nothing that although theme park reservations can sell out, availability can change frequently. Guests are able to make changes and reschedule theme park reservations, so if a date you'd like to go isn't immediately available, you can keep checking back to see if your dates open up.

Because of reduced capacity, we highly recommend making your Disneyland Resort reservation as soon as reservations are available for your date.

How will Disneyland be different when it reopens?

While the Disneyland Resort will still be home to beloved attractions and entertainment, there will of course be some changes in order to protect their Cast Members and Guests. Here’s what we know so far:

FastPass and MaxPass when Disneyland Reopens

As of right now, both FastPass and MaxPass are not available due to reduced park capacity. We will be sure to keep you updated if this changes in the future. If you have previously purchased tickets that include MaxPass and MaxPass is not available during your visit, you can take your Disneyland tickets to Guest Services. Guest Services will issue a refund for MaxPass in the form of a Disney Gift Card.

Park Hopping When Disneyland Reopens

Park Hopping is currently available at the Disneyland Resort. Guests with Park Hopper tickets will be able to Park Hop between Disney California Adventure Park and Disneyland Park starting at 1:00 PM (PST) each day of their visit, as long as capacity allows. Although you must begin in the park you select first, after 1PM, you may go back and forth between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park as often as you wish.

Extra Magic Hour and Magic Morning When Disneyland Reopens

Disney has also confirmed that Magic Morning and Extra Magic Hours will not be available for the time being. We will keep you updated if anything changes.

Masks at Disneyland When It Reopens

As of June 15, 2021 the Disneyland Resort updated their mask policy to the following:

  • Masks are not required for anyone outdoors.
  • Masks are required for unvaccinated visitors (including children) only when indoors unless actively eating or drinking.
  • Proof of vaccination is not required.

In our experience, Disney has been allowing guests to make their own decisions about mask wearing with whatever they are the most comfortable with. Social distancing is also no longer being enforced by Disney, and is up to the comfort level of guests. Hand sanitizing stations are available throughout the parks. For the most up-to-date health and safety information, we recommend visiting Disneyland's website directly.

Have the Disneyland area hotels made changes?

Yes - our hotel partners know how important it is for you to be protected while you're traveling. Hotels around the world are increasing cleaning and health policies and procedures. Many of these procedures include increased frequency of cleaning high traffic public areas and high touch surfaces in guest rooms. Hospital-grade disinfectants are becoming the norm in hotel sanitation. Many hotels that offer breakfast have also opted for a grab-n-go or staff served breakfast instead of a traditional breakfast buffet. While each hotel may have slightly different procedures, know that they are keeping your health and well being at the forefront of everything they do. You can see what additional procedures are being implemented by each property individually on each hotel's detail page on our site. Just click your desired room type and you'll see all of the hotel's detailed information, including additional Covid-19 procedures.

Guests Who Already Have Disneyland Tickets

If you already have Disneyland tickets, congratulations! You can now make reservations to visit the Disneyland Resort, as long as you are within the 120-day rolling reservation window. In order to make a reservation, you'll need your Disneyland Resort ticket numbers. You can find these in your after-booking email, or by signing into your Get Away Today account on our website.

I was on vacation at the Disneyland Resort during the announced closure, now what?

Disneyland announced that guests who were not able to use the entirety of their ticket due to the park closure are valid through the end of their respective validity period. If you purchased your Disneyland tickets on or after Feb. 21, 2020, you will have until December 31, 2022 to use the remainder of your tickets.

If you are unable to use the remainder of your partially used tickets, you may request a refund by mailing your partially used tickets with a request for a refund letter. Your letter should include the following information:

1. Payable Name (i.e. name of person who purchased tickets)
2. Physical Address (this address is where the refund check will be mailed to, if approved)
3. Contact Phone Number
4. Physical Tickets (we recommend that you take a picture of the front and back of the actual ticket(s) for your records)

Can I use my Kids Spring special tickets when Disneyland reopens?

If you purchased Kids Spring special tickets originally valid for use through May 21, 2020, the Kids Spring special has now been extended for travel through December 16, 2021. Please note that the entirety of your ticket needs to be used by December 16, 2021. This ticket will expire and will no longer be valid after this date. If you have not used any of the days of your Kids Spring Special ticket, all days still must be used within 13 days of the first day of use, and no later than December 16, 2021. If you choose to cancel those tickets, any cancellations must be made before the new expiration date, otherwise your tickets will become non-refundable. If your tickets become non-refundable, they do not lose their value and may be applied to another ticket for travel at a later date. If you choose to do that, you'll hold on to your tickets and may upgrade them at the ticket gate at the Disneyland Resort. Regular cancellation policies will apply. Blockout dates of July 4, 2021; November 20-27, 2021 apply .

Can I use my Southern California Resident discount tickets when Disneyland reopens?

Guests who purchased Disneyland Southern California Resident tickets will be able to use these tickets December 16, 2021. Please note that this ticket must be used in its entirety on the new expiration date. Blockout dates of July 4 and November 20-27, 2021 apply. A Southern California Photo ID is still required to use this ticket and must be presented at the park for admission.

What Other Theme Parks Are Reopening?

Of course Disneyland is not the only theme park affected by the pandemic. Many theme parks had temporary closures and already reopened. Hi Anonymous! Yes, out-of-state residents are able to stay at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. However, at this time, out-of-state residents aren't able to visit the Parks. We'll be sure to update you as we learn new information. Thanks so much!


Hi Anonymous! If you're unable to get the reservation you want, your Disneyland Resort tickets will remain valid until January 12, 2023. Because they are valid for use through this timeframe, you don't need to worry about rescheduling your tickets. We hope this helps!

We booked a trip to Hawaii the first June. The island is requiring self quarantine for 14 days right now. It may change by June, but doubtful. Can we push our vacation out until 2021. Bell - Good news! Disney recently announced they're pausing payments for Annual Passholders. Looks like you had the right idea ;)


I received notification that my hotel is cancelled for June 6 - 10. I also paid for ART while we are there. Other family members that booked a day prior to me have not received notification. I am wondering if my notification was an error since your announcement is for vacation packages through April 18.


Instead of continuing to charge annual pass holders during this unprecedented time, why doesn’t Disneyland put a “hold” on monthly charge and resume and extend AP and payment once Disneyland reopens? I could use that money during these times of unemployment. I’m cutting corners in my expenses, Why isn’t Disneyland?
