For the muggles and wannabe wizards who have yet to make it to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is an experience you won’t want to miss. While you are there, you will want to take full advantage of all the attractions, rides, shows, shops, and magical details, and we are here to help you do just that.

What is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter?

In our opinion, it is the closest you can get to experiencing what it would be like to be a witch or wizard at Hogwarts.

You’ll find elements and attractions that make up the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at two different Universal Studios parks. Consider purchasing Universal Studios Orlando packages with tickets to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure to see it all. With park-to-park tickets, you can hop on the Hogwarts Express train from King’s Cross Station in Universal Studios, Florida, and take it to Hogsmeade Station in Islands of Adventure.

Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley are waiting for you at Universal Studios Florida. Wander through the London streets until you find the secret passageway that leads to famous shops and restaurants like Ollivander’s wand shop and the Leaky Cauldron. Thrill seekers will also love the Escape from Gringotts ride beneath the bank vaults.

Hogsmeade is a snowy village located at the Islands of Adventure park. Here you can visit Hogwarts Castle and ride the exciting Hagrid’s Magical Motorbike Adventure.

1. Avoid Peak Season

Because the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is host to some very popular attractions, avoiding peak travel times can help thin the crowds. Most visitors will be there during the summer and other school breaks. If you can purchase Universal Studios Florida tickets during different times of the year, you’ll have a less busy experience.

Getting to the parks right when they open or staying until they close is also helpful. You’ll be able to capture some of the magic before other visitors wake up or after they’re back in their rooms for the night.

2. Plan a Multi-day Trip

It is a difficult and nearly impossible task to see all aspects of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in one day. There are so many magical details and elements to discover that you will want to take your time. Instead of trying to make it all fit, make it a multi-day trip. Dedicate an entire day to Hogsmeade and another to Diagon Alley to get the full experience without being rushed.

3. Get There Early and Stay for the Light Show

As mentioned before, getting to the park first thing in the morning promises smaller crowds. Booking packages that include Universal Studios Florida ticketsTEXT HERE and rooms at a Universal hotel make it easier to get to the parks early and stay late.

You can take in an incredible Hogwarts castle light show on certain nights at Hogsmeade. Projections light up the castle walls while music plays, and all four houses are represented. The light show ends with a brief fireworks display. The light show varies throughout the year, with special touches added around different holidays. Check the schedule before you book because this display is definitely worth seeing.

4. Hop On the Hogwarts Express

Any Harry Potter fan knows that you catch the Hogwarts Express at King’s Cross station at platform 9 ¾. Taking the Hogwarts Express is an experience that is a must. Be sure to take the train in both directions with your park-to-park tickets as each journey is different.

5. Trade in Your Muggle Money

When you get to Diagon Alley, make your way to Gringotts Money Exchange to trade your muggle dollars in for Galleons. This money can be used throughout the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to make purchases. Trade any unused Galleons before you return to the real world, or keep a couple as souvenirs.

Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade have incredible shops to explore, with wands, robes, and chocolate frogs to buy, but don’t forget to check out all of the shop windows. The windows are decorated with enchanted details that come to life before your eyes.

If you make purchases that are too big to carry around with you, both parks have pickup services where you can grab your souvenirs at the end of the day. Those staying at an on-site hotel or resort can also arrange for purchases to be sent to their room.

6. Don’t Miss Out on the Treats

In addition to rides, shops, and other Harry Potter attractions, the Wizarding World also offers exciting food options. Ever wanted to taste butterbeer? This Harry Potter treat is offered in both Wizarding World parks and is a fan favorite. In Diagon Alley, you must check out the Leaky Cauldron. In Hogsmeade, The Three Broomsticks offers classic British meals all day.

8. Pack for the Adventure

Before packing your wizard robes, consider the time of year you’re visiting and check the weather. You’ll likely spend all day over multiple days at the parks and will enjoy your trip more if you come prepared. One often-forgotten but essential item to remember is a portable phone charger. Between navigation, communication, and photo documentation, your phone will be working overtime, and you don’t want to risk running out of power. A little planning before you book your family’s trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will ensure you have the best time possible. With so many rides, shows, and treats to discover, you will not want to miss out on any of the magic.
