What Are Disneyland After Dark Nites?

After Dark Nites is the Disney name for special nighttime events held after the regular park operating hours at the Disneyland Resort.

Each After Dark Nite requires a separate ticket and serves as your reservation as well. Often guests will add an After Dark ticket to their regular Disneyland vacation or some even make the After Dark event their entire trip!

When Are Disneyland After Dark Nites?

In our quick list at the top of the article, we listed all After Dark events together. This list details the specific themes you can attend during your dates.
  • January 23, 25, 30, 2024 (Sweethearts Nite)
  • February 1, 6, 8, 12 & 14, 2024 (Sweethearts Nite)
  • March 5 & 7, 2024 (Disney Channel Nite)
  • April 16, 18, 23, 25 & 30, 2024 (Star Wars Nite during Season of the Force)
  • May 2, 7 9 (Star Wars Nite), 10, 14, 15, 17, 19, 22, 23, 28 & 31, 2024 (Grad Nite)
  • June: 2, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14 (Grad Nite), 18 & 20, 2024 (Pride Nite)
If you have a trip planned in the first half of 2024, there's a good chance one of your dates will fall over an After Dark Event at Disneyland.

One thing to know is the private, after-hours events don't start until after park closing, which means the park's typical spring hours are not affected.

You may notice groups arriving during “mix in hours” with their costumes or themed outfits on. It’s a lot of fun to see people mingle in the parks about 3 hours before and check out all the work they put into their costumes.

Should I Visit Disneyland Resort During After Dark Nites if we're not attending?

Yes! We always say that the best time to go to Disneyland is when you can go to Disneyland. If that happens to fall over After Dark Nites, there is still plenty of fun to be had!

As with any Disneyland vacation, there are so many ways to make the most of your time. Services like Disney Genie+ and Mobile Ordering are huge time savers. You can also make reservations for table service restaurants, including Character Dining, up to 60 days in advance.

There are also so many entertainment options in both parks that there is never a shortage of fun. Having the right attitude and being able to go with the flow are also crucial for making the most of any Disneyland vacation, regardless of when you go.

How Do I Get Tickets to After Dark Nites?

Disneyland After Dark Nites have limited capacity and are subject to availability. Tickets are only sold via Disneyland directly. We suggest using the search function on their website or app to look for tickets for your date/theme. Remember they do sell out quickly, so it’s best to buy as soon as they go on sale.

What Are Some Tips for After Dark Events on a Regular Vacation?

We love sharing Disneyland tips here at Get Away Today. Some of the best tips are valid all year-round but especially during after hour events.

Here are some of our best tips.
  1. Download the Disneyland App. Here you'll have wait times, Fastpass availability, restaurant reservations, Character meet and greet info, show times and so much more. You'll love having everything at your fingertips. It makes planning your trip a breeze. With real time information, you can also easily shift gears if necessary.
  2. Disney Genie+. Use this system to make the most of your time at Disneyland. Make sure you get return times for your favorite attractions like Space Mountain, Soarin' Around the World, Toy Story Midway Mania, Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT and more.
  3. Rider Swap. This is one tip that the graduating seniors likely won’t be using. If you have smaller kids who can't ride, ask the Cast Member outside each ride for a Rider Swap pass before you get in line. It will allow someone in your group to stay back with anyone who can't ride. Then, once your group has ridden, the person who stayed back can ride without the long standby wait time.
  4. Single Rider. Guests ages 7 and up can take advantage of the Single Rider Lines available at select attractions. You can go in an often much shorter line and fill in any open spots. You won't sit next to your party, but you may end up in the same car, just a different row. You may see some high school graduates using this trick, but since they are typically traveling all together in large groups, most seniors will probably want to ride with their friends as one large group.
  5. Character Dining. Making Character Dining reservations is one of our top recommendations whether you're visiting during a Disney Grad Nite at Disneyland or not. It's the best way to meet the characters because they come to you. There are various options at Disneyland for Character Dining and they each have their own perks. Reservations can be made 60 days in advance and we always recommend making your reservations as soon as possible.
  6. Get a 5th Day Free Ticket. By getting the longest length of ticket possible, which happens to be five days, you'll have the most flexibility. If you or your kids start to feel overwhelmed, you can leave during the peak of the day for a quick recharge back at your hotel. We think the 5-day Park Hopper is the best ticket ever!
  7. Early Entry. A huge perk of staying onsite at one of the Disneyland Resort hotels is it allows you access into certain areas of Disneyland or California Adventure 30 minutes before it opens to the public. We recommend using your Early Entry each morning to ride the most popular attractions with the lowest wait times.
