Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa Review

If you're looking for the perfect San Diego hotel for your beach vacation, be sure to check out our Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa review. Our team has stayed at this Mission Bay/Mission Beach property and we share what it's really like.

Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa Review - Rooms:

There are three main room types at the Catamaran; standard, deluxe studios and suites. Within each of these room types, there are resort, bay and even the occasional ocean views. The guest rooms can be found throughout the resort. There is one large tower and a number of two-story buildings spread throughout the property.

If you are looking for a bay front or bay view room, you can request it when making your reservation. Views are available on a request only basis, but the Catamaran does its best to make sure your stay is exactly what you hope it will be.

The standard rooms at the Catamaran come with either two queens or one king bed, as well as a mini fridge. Studio suites come with two queen beds, a full kitchen and a patio or balcony. Suites have a full kitchen, a separate living room area and a patio or balcony. The suite bedrooms have one king bed and the living room has a pull out sofa bed. All of the rooms feature fresh, spa-like decor.

Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa Review - Amenities:

The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa really does feel like a resort. In fact, we recommend that you schedule some time at the hotel during your vacation. You'll feel like you've been transported to Hawaii the second you step into the lobby, complete with lava rock and a waterfall. The grounds are lush and sprawling, and best yet, home to exotic birds that perform daily.

The swimming pool is large and tropical. There is a free arcade, a fitness center and complimentary bay cruises aboard the Bahia Belle. There's also a full service spa where you can book facials, massages and a number of body treatments. You can rent water sports equipment, bicycles and more on-site. But maybe best of all, since the Catamaran is located directly on Mission Bay, there are beach chairs, umbrellas and more all available to resort guests.

Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa Review - Dining:

The Catamaran is home to two restaurants, open year-round. Oceana Coastal Kitchen is the more upscale restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Indoor and outdoor seating are both available.  This restaurant serves fresh seafood and hosts and award-winning Sunday brunch. Watch for weekday specials like $9 flatbreads, sushi or craft cocktails.

Moray's is perfect if you're looking for something more casual. You'll find flatbreads, burgers, fish tacos and more served amidst tiki torches and outdoor fire pits. Moray's is open for lunch and dinner with Happy Hour specials Monday - Friday.

During summer, you can also grab a snack or drink at the Oasis Snack Shack. The Catamaran also hosts Sunset Luaus on select days during the summer with a Polynesian inspired feast and entertainment. It will be the highlight of your stay if you get to experience it.

If you want to venture out, there are plenty of restaurants nearby. You'll find everything from casual taco shops to fine dining and everything in between.

Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa Review - Location:

If there was a perfect location for a beach vacation, the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa may have found it. Not only is the Catamaran located directly on the tranquil Mission Bay, it's a quick walk across the street to the bustling Mission Beach.

Not only are you steps away from the sand, you're within an easy drive to San Diego's most popular attractions. SeaWorld San Diego is a 10 minute drive. Old Town is typically under 15 minutes by car, while downtown San Diego is around a 15-20 minute drive. And the world-famous San Diego Zoo located in Balboa Park is only about 25 minutes away. It is an incredibly central location that feels tucked away from it all.
