The newest installment of The Guardians of the Galaxy is about to hit the theaters. The unlikely mashup of heroes will be slated to save the galaxy once again. A task that is much easier to fulfill with an awesome soundtrack! There's nothing a few good tunes can't fix.
The Guardians find a way to have fun together, even when their lives are in peril. I think the music helps. You can use that same strategy to survive a family road trip! The better the tunes, the better the drive. My family just returned from a nice long road trip. My kids are starting to grow out of the toddler stage so twenty hours of Dora the Explorer isn't as cool as it used to be. I couldn't believe how much fun we had jamming to the radio. Playing DJ was the coveted job between the children. They took turns selecting songs, singing along, and surprising me with their lyrics knowledge! The miles flew by.
I was thinking how fun it would be to create a mixtape for each family vacation. We have advanced past the practice of recording songs onto actual tape, but creating digital vacation playlists is just as effective. On our last vacation, we created a whole album of songs that had a beach/California theme since we were heading to the Golden State. The songs in our playlist will always remind me of the places we visited and the memories we made on that trip. I highly recommend it!
This post was inspired by the Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Volume 1. You can use our free Guardians of the Galaxy cassette printable to create your own. The box can be used for a Guardian's birthday or movie party. You could also fill it with snacks for an adventurous day at Disney California Adventure Park this summer - where you have the chance to meet the Guardians themselves! Here's what you'll need for the Guardians of the Galaxy cassette boxes:
To start, download the Guardians of the Galaxy cassette template. Print one copy for each box you want to make, using cardstock and color ink. Once printed, cut around the outline of the box.
Fold along the grey cassette lines and fold the little tabs. I turned the template so the printed area was faced down on the table. Then, I folded the sections up. Try to keep the lines straight. It makes the box easier to put together later!
Use double sided tape to attach the grey tabs to the bottom of the tape box. Place the tape on the grey area of the tabs. As you stick them to the bottom of the tape box it will pull the side of the tape box upward to make a 3-D object.
Then, place a strip of tape onto both of the side edges of the cassette tape box. Then, fold them up and stick them to the back side of the other cassette tape sides. It is much less confusing than it sounds!
The top of the box has a flap that can be folded over and tucked inside to keep the contents in place.
Now, the box is ready to fill. I put candy inside. These Guardians of the Galaxy cassette boxes would make a fun party gift for guests. Or, you can use them to hold treats to eat during the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
I hope you have fun with these mixtape boxes! And, remember to make your own cool family mixtape for your next road trip. It has been said that music makes the world go round. While that may not be entirely true, it sure makes a road trip across the galaxy or just the country pretty awesome.
