First of all, the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit is November through May. And December - March is whale migration season, so that is especially awesome. The Riviera Nayarit is spread out and features a lot of resort style properties. Its neighbor Puerto Vallarta, is only about 15 minutes away and has resorts as well, but also more high rise and boutique hotels.

Both areas have amazing beaches and are close to the mountains and amazing culture. Downtown Puerto Vallarta is home to the Malecon Boardwalk and a great shopping and dining district. If you're traveling in December, you'll want to be sure to check out the Our Lady Guadalupe processions that take place in the historic churches.
