Review of Shops at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

What would a trip to a Galaxy Far, Far Away be without a souvenir? Luckily, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is filled with several unique shops and mesmerizing merchandise experiences that will make your visit to Batuu an unforgettable one. So, before you spend all of your galactic credits in one place, we’re going to dive in and review all of the shops you can explore at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland Park.

Marketplace

One of the most visually stunning areas within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the marketplace. Not only is this bustling area filled with incredible detail and breathtaking architecture, but it’s also home to some of the best shops in Batuu. Below, we’ve listed out every store you can hit while visiting the marketplace.

Shops at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - Our Number One Recommendation

Toydarian Toymaker

If you only had time to visit one shop in the marketplace, Toydarian Toymaker should be it. This quaint spot is home to Zabaka the Toydarian, who has created all manner of artisanal playthings and handmade collectibles for visitors of Black Spire Outpost to enjoy. In anticipation of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Imagineers often said that guests will be able to purchase unique merchandise that won’t be found anywhere else in the Parks, or on Earth for that matter. After visiting Toydarian Toymaker, we’re happy to report that the items found here are exactly that. The handcrafted dolls, quirky card games, miniature vehicle replicas and wooden figurines truly feel foreign compared to Mickey Ears and spirit jerseys found in other areas of the park – and we’re not complaining about it at all. Most items found here are around $19.99, but can be less or more expensive, depending on the trinket.

Jewels of Bith

Contrary to Toydarian Toymaker, Jewels of Bith feels more like a typical gift shop you would find within the Disneyland Resort. However, unlike other Disney pins and merchandise, the items at Jewels of Bith are all themed after Black Spire Outpost. So, while you can still find hats, shirts, pins and lanyards here, it still has an exclusive Star Wars feel to it. Items at Jewels of Bith can range from $9.99 - $59.99.

Black Spire Outfitters

If you’ve ever wanted to don a Jedi robe, Black Spire Outfitters is the place to visit. Here, you can browse Star Wars-inspired apparel for both adults and children like Jedi robes, vests, accessories and more. This shop is a little more expensive, ranging from $19.99 - $124.99, depending on the item.

It is important to note that if you do purchase a Jedi robe while you’re there, you will not be allowed to wear it within the park because it violates Disneyland’s costume policy. However, children 13 and under will be allowed to wear Star Wars costumes as long as it’s in accordance with the guidelines mentioned above. For more information regarding what you can and can’t wear, feel free to visit Disneyland’s website directly.

Creature Stall

At the creature stall, you can discover curious and exotic creatures from across the galaxy – and even take home a new friend! While this charming shop might seem like it’s filled with ordinary plushes and stuffed animals, these cuddly (and sometimes creepy) critters can create strange noises, making it feel like they are actually alive. Plus, you can even find a Loth-cat peacefully sleeping in the middle of the shop. Choose between Rathtars, Tauntauns, Pufferpigs and more. However, unlike a typical stuffed animal found on earth, these creatures can get expensive, ranging anywhere from $19.99 - $74.99.

Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities

Outside of the marketplace, you can the most legendary shop in the galaxy - Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiques. Well, that’s if you can find it of course. Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities is easy to miss, as it’s tucked away inside of the heart of Batuu. Because of the shop’s secrecy and feeling of exclusivity, it’s no surprise that there is typically a line just to get in. But, the visit is well worth the wait. Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities is filled with mysterious Jedi and Sith relics and unique galactic artifacts ranging from $3.99 to $395. Not only will you be able to purchase different Kyber crystals (more on those later), legendary lightsabers and holocrons, you can actually interact with the jaw-dropping Dok-Ondar animatronic. While he typically sits quietly taking inventory, you can occasionally hear him haggle with customers and demand orders from his assistants.

Shops at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - Interactive Experiences

Droid Depot

Unlike any of the other shops we’ve mentioned previously, both the Droid Depot and Savi’s Workshop blur the lines between fantasy and reality – and we’re not kidding. The Droid Depot was by far our favorite experience we had in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and maybe in any Disney Park. At first, the long wait and price tag ($99.99 per droid) might not seem worth it, but if you can afford to purchase one, we’re practically begging you to do it.

Before you start constructing your custom astromech droid, you’ll need to choose whether to create a BB-Series or R-Series unit. Each unit has a wide variety of colors, components and accessories to can choose from to make your droid feel like your very own. Once you’ve decided what unit to create, you’ll be provided with a basket and a blueprint of what parts you’ll need to collect as they roll by on an ongoing conveyor belt – yes, you read that right.

After you’ve collected all of the required parts, a Cast Member will guide you to an open station where you actually get to assemble your droid.  Here, you’ll follow the instructions provided on the placemat beneath you on how to assemble your droid in the proper sequence. Once completed, this is where the Disney magic you’ve come to know, and love happens. A Cast Member will assist you in activating your droid, as you watch it come to life right before your very eyes.

Even after you leave the shop with your brand-new astromech droid, the fun has just begun. While at the Droid Depot, we decided to purchase a personality chip for our droid (this is an additional cost to the $99.99 base price.) Depending on which personality chip you choose, First Order, Resistance or Smuggler, your droid will interact in various ways with the land itself. While you can’t take let your droid roam around while visiting Batuu, you can still watch as it starts quaking being near a First Order droid or buzzes with excitement to see a member of the Resistance.

So, if you’re debating whether to do the Droid Depot or not, know that we thought it was worth every penny. We love you forever BB-Karen!

Savi’s Workshop

Last, but certainly not least, is Savi’s Workshop. Here, you’re able to build and customize your very own legendary lightsaber and become one with the Force. While we know that the $200 price tag is steep, especially after paying for an entire Disneyland vacation, the experience you have at Savi’s Workshop is truly an unforgettable one. If you are even a remote fan of Star Wars, you MUST do this.

At this point in the Star Wars Universe, and with the First Order close by, the Force is not widely known or believed. Savi's Workshop is forced (no pun intended) to keep their lightsaber operation under wraps. Those that run the workshop, known as the Gatherers, search the galaxy for ancient artifacts and relics to keep the hope of the Jedi and Force alive.

As you are escorted through a secret entrance (they can't have Stormtroopers finding this place), you find yourself in a small, intimate workshop. You are greeted by a few of the aforementioned Gatherers, who take you through an immersive story about themselves, the Force, lightsabers and how to build them. Each part of the story is captivating and filled with magical touches. For example, when the Gatherers are talking about the different kyber crystals, the room lights up with the associated color and the music ebbs and flows with intensity. You are truly engrossed in the scene and what you are here for. But this experience is all about you and your build. It is now time to choose your own crystal - close your eyes and imagine what color your blade will be and what each one represents. The Gatherers then present you with your kyber crystal options, each with their own unique shape, size and hue. This is the first step in building your very own customized lightsaber. After you have made your selection, you will need someplace to house the power of the crystal - the lightsaber hilt.

Before you arrive in Savi's Workshop, they have you select what version of hilt you would like to build. The pieces are now presented in front of you. You have multiple selections for each section of your hilt - you are genuinely building something exclusive and rare. The Gatherers are there to help guide you on the intricacies of how exactly to build out your lightsaber. Once everyone has completed their hilt, you are asked to step away from your workstation. We have reached the most 'dangerous' step of the process. The Gathers stop at each station and place your newly built hilt in the crystal stabilization chamber. Everything about this experience is truly magical, but not ready for this moment you are. As the Gatherers are explaining this step being complete, they are interpreted by the voice of the one and only Master Yoda. *Insert high pitched scream* The Force is strong here.

And now, for the final step - activating your lightsaber. Everyone steps back up to their workstation, places a hand on their hilt and activates their lightsaber. The room goes dark, but is illuminated but the bright, luminous colors of the multiple lightsabers. If you were ever wondering what it would feel like to be in a dark room full of strangers slowly lifting up your hand-built lightsaber to the sounds of Star Wars..... you are bonded to these people for life.
