If your idea of a Disneyland vacation is pushing through crowds and rushing around, you're doing it wrong. There, I said it. Disneyland is the Happiest Place on Earth, and it should be fun! In fact, it can even be, dare I say, relaxing? I've put together 9 places to relax in Disneyland when you just need a little break.
Redwood Creek Challenge - This is one of my favorite places to relax in Disneyland. It is tucked away on the quiet side of Disney California Adventure Park, along the path from the private entrance to Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. It's a perfect spot if you have kids who need to get out their wiggles, or anyone who just wants a little bit of peace and quiet. There are bridges, rope swings, slides and tunnels and more for the kids. There are benches and seating in the shade for tired moms and dads.
Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa Lobby - There is something so homey, yet majestic about the lobby at Disney's Grand. There are tons of cozy chairs, live piano music and a roaring fire. There's also a TV that plays classic Disney cartoons for little ones to keep them busy. You don't need to be a guest staying at the hotel to enjoy its public spaces; you'll just need to enter from Downtown Disney or Disney California Adventure Park after you've gone through security. If The lobby is air conditioned when it's hot outside, and heated when the weather is a little chilly. If you're visiting during the holidays, you'll be treated with views of one of the largest Christmas trees at the resort. No matter the time of year you visit, the lobby at the Grand is a perfect place for a midday break or calm evening.
Trader Sam's and the surrounding areas at the Disneyland Hotel - Like the public areas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, you don't have to be a guest at the Disneyland Hotel to enjoy many of its areas. One of my favorite places to relax in Disneyland is Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar. If you go during the off hours, you'll likely find a table with ease. However, if you're going when it's busier, there are other areas nearby where you can relax and enjoy live island music and the soft glow of tiki torches. The Disneyland Hotel also features an outdoor firepit near the pool that is accessible to anyone.
Flo's V8 Cafe - If you're in the middle of Cars Land, you'll find an oasis at Flo's V8 Cafe. This quick service restaurant is amazing. Not only does it serve home style cooking in hearty portions, there is also fun music and plenty of seating. The restaurant itself has tons of indoor and outdoor seating, but my favorite is the patio. It is tucked away alongside Radiator Springs Racers. You can watch all of the action without the crowds. And since it's a quick service restaurant, it is incredibly casual. You can easily enjoy the space without ordering from the restaurant. It is such a fun place to relax in Disneyland!
"It's Tough to Be a Bug" Theater - If you're looking for a place out of the sun, cold or crowds, "I's Tough to Be a Bug" is a great choice. If "It's Tough to Be a Bug," isn't playing during your stay, it's possible that you'll get to see a sneak preview of a Disney movie. On my last visit, I was able to watch a 10 minute preview for Cars 3. The theater itself is quite large, and because the films are longer, you're guaranteed at least 15 minutes of rest and relaxation.
Sunset Showcase Theater - Another top spot to relax in Disneyland is the Sunset Showcase Theater in Disney California Adventure Park. Located in Hollywood Land, this theater rotates extended previews regularly. Most recently, the theater hosted an extended preview of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film. It is currently showing Summer of Heroes Showcase, a medley of all of the super heroes spotlighted during Summer of Heroes at Disney California Adventure Park.
Child Care Centers - There are two Child Care Centers located in the Disneyland Resort; one in Disneyland and one in Disney California Adventure. If you have small kids, or anyone in your family who gets overwhelmed by too much stimuli, you'll definitely want to check out the Child Care Centers. The first thing I notice every time I walk in is the absence of sound. It is quiet and peaceful. If you are nursing, pumping, or even just need a quiet space, there are rocking chairs that are sectioned off with sheet dividers.
Animation Building - Another top place to relax in Disneyland is the Animation Building located inside Disney California Adventure Park. This space houses many attractions including the Sorcerer's Workshop, Turtle Talk with Crush, and a Royal Meet - and - Greet with Anna and Elsa. However, what makes it my favorite place to relax in Disneyland is the spacious hub of the building. The main entrance is a room surrounded with giant screens. There are comfortable couches in the middle and snippets of Disney movies play continuously.
Frozen - LIVE at the Hyperion - My final favorite place to relax in Disneyland is also located in Disney California Adventure Park. The Frozen show is located in Hollywood Land adjacent to Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!. The theater holds nearly 2,000 people at a time, so you can oftentimes walk in and get a seat, even during busier times. If it is a really peak travel time, Fastpass tickets may be available for the show, which you'll want to get. This is approximately an hour long live recreation of the film. The music, costumes, special effects and scenery are simply stunning.
