UPDATED FEBRUARY 2024. The Southern California theme parks are full of fun year round. Each September through October, Halloween celebrations range from slightly spooky fun for the whole family to downright terrifying. No matter what type of Halloween experience you're looking for, you're sure to find it in Southern California.

Here is list of all the theme park Hallween celebrations you can expect in Southern California this year:

We will go over each of these events in detail so you can create your own combination of Southern California Halloween fun all season long.

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort is easily one of the most popular seasons to visit the parks. It is as family friendly as it gets! Halloween Time festivities are included with your regular theme park admission.

NEW in 2024, Halloween begins in late August. Be sure to check back here for all the updates!

Each year there seem to be more pumpkins and not-so-spooky surprises:

• The Pumpkin Festival on Main Street, U.S.A.
• Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters after Dark
• Radiator Screams decor throughout Cars Land

More annual favorites begin in early September and go through Halloween Night.

Our favorite way to celebrate Halloween at Disneyland Resort is by staying nearby at the Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance & Waterpark Resort because they decorate their entire lobby and outside of the hotel with tasteful Halloween decorations, the on site water park is perfect during fall heatwaves and it’s just a short walk to Disneyland Resort.

When you combine your stay at Courtyard with a multi-day Disneyland ticket, it’s just the beginning of all the fun.

In addition to Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort, Oogie Boogie Bash is a separate, private ticketed event held on select nights. Tickets include special decor, access to the Frightfully Fun Parade, photo ops, and more candy than you can carry! Tickets always go quickly!

Disney California Adventure closes early on the nights of Oogie Boogie Bash for guests that don't have party tickets. Disneyland Park and Downtown Disney District will stay open for guests to visit on the nights of the party. Just be sure you have a Park Hopper ticket so you can visit both parks on the same day. It’s definitely worth adding a ticket to Oogie Boogie Bash to your Disneyland vacation package.

If you're looking for something that's not quite so scary, do not fear! The SeaWorld Spooktacular takes place on weekends during the daytime from mid September through Halloween and is included in your SeaWorld San Diego park admission.

During this event, your kids can trick-or-treat on the decorated trail and meet some of their favorite characters.

You can even experience SeaWorld Spooktacular with Kids' Free tickets in October. There really is something for everyone at SeaWorld San Diego this Halloween!

Howl-O-Scream is one of Southern California's newest Halloween attractions and we're hopeful for its return in 2024. This is a separately ticketed event at SeaWorld San Diego. Beginning in mid-September through Halloween night, this party starts at 7:00 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and select Thursdays.

Experience scare zones, haunted houses, unique cocktails, beers and spirits, live entertainment and a nighttime coaster ride. The three haunted houses included with your Howl-O-Scream ticket will surely send shivers down your spine. There is no place to hide when you enter a scare zone.

Keep your eye out for Splatz the Clown and other misfits who are waiting for you to come their way, or they may come find you. Grab a drink while you watch the live dance show, or after you take a ride on your favorite coaster in the dark.

On select nights in October, LEGOLAND stays open late for a festive Brick-or-Treat! Costume contests, LEGO themed treat stations, Halloween themed entertainment and more make this the perfect way to build Halloween memories. The event takes place in the evening andno longer requires separate admission for the party.

Guests who visit during the day will also be able to see special Halloween Time decor throughout the park and trick or treat. It makes for some festive photos and a fun night!

Knott's Scary Farm is just that... scary! On select nights from mid-September to October 31, when Knott's Berry Farm closes, Knott's Scary Farm opens.

Intense haunted houses, twisted and terrifying mazes, and ghoulish characters transform the park into a nightmare. Eek! Knott's Scary Farm requires separate admission and is not recommended for anyone under 13.

For the smaller ones in the group, you’ll certainly want to check out Knott’s Spooky Farm during daytime park hours.

Universal Studios Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights turns your favorite horror flicks into reality before your eyes on select nights after the park closes.

Maze themes change each year and have included themes like: The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare, Halloween, The Horrors of Blumhouse and more. Because of the intense nature of Horror Nights, children under 13 are not recommended. Separate admission is required.

If you are visiting San Diego in October, you're in luck! Many attractions like the San Diego Zoo, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and SeaWorld San Diego offer Kids Free October, where your little ones can enter the parks for free of charge!

The San Diego Zoo hosts HalGLOWeen during the month of October. Events kick off at 5:00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights in October.
