Good-bye Orange County, Hello San Diego!

By Kimberly Fidler 11/08/2013

On Wednesday morning our staff checked out of the Disneyland Hotel to continue on to the San Diego portion of our Southern California Familiarization Trip. But, before we couldn't leave Orange County before visiting two of our most popular Disneyland Resort Area hotels, the Hilton Anaheim/Orange Suites and the Ayres Inn. These hotels both offer a great free breakfast for Get Away Today guests and are within walking distance to the Outlets at Orange, an awesome shopping, dining and entertainment district.

Our team was then on our way to San Diego by way of Carlsbad, home to some of the country's best beaches, golf and LEGOLAND.

We got to see the La Quinta Carlsbad, Homewood Suites Carlsbad, Grand Pacific Palisades, the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and the brand-new LEGOLAND Hotel. The Homewood Suites Carlsbad is such a great value for families because each suite is equipped with a full kitchen and not only do they serve hot breakfast each morning, they serve dinner Monday - Thursday!

The Sheraton Carlsbad is such a relaxing resort, especially after a day of fun at LEGOLAND, shopping, golfing, or playing at the beach!  Their Sweet Sleeper Beds are as comfortable as they come and their pool area is gorgeous.

When our staff got to the LEGOLAND Hotel, they headed straight to the LEGO pit in the lobby and started building. We loved the different themed rooms and the fact that guests get exclusive early entry into LEGOLAND. The LEGOLAND Hotel is any LEGO lover's dream come true!

We then walked over to the SEA LIFE Aquarium, next door the LEGOLAND and the LEGOLAND Hotel. This is included with our Park Hopper Ticket and we had a blast.

We then headed over the Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn & Suites for a tour before checking-in at the Holiday Inn San Diego Bayside. This hotel was recently completely renovated and we loved it! Below is one of their new tower rooms with a coastal contemporary feel, high ceilings and views of the bay with an ocean breeze. Not only does the Holiday Inn San Diego Bayside have an ideal location on the bay, the have a wonderful pool area featuring shuffleboard courts, a 9-hole putting green, billiards and a ping pong table. You can even rent a beach cruiser for a leisurely ride around the San Diego Bay - included with your reservation!

Later that night, some of our San Diego contacts came over to our hotel for dinner and a trade show. We got to see all of our friends from Carlsbad by the Sea, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, Sheraton La Jolla, San Diego Zoo, Best Western Island Palms, Legoland, Pacific Terrace Hotel, Old Town Trolley Tour, Embassy Suites La Jolla, USS Midway, Courtyard Mission Valley, Speed Boat Adventure Tours, the Embassy Suites San Diego, Flagship Tours, and Paradise Point Resort. It was great to see everyone!

Then, Thursday we started with more hotel tours. We began at the Residence Inn Mission Valley, which is where our staff got to stay last year. They have fantastic one and two bedroom suites with a full kitchen, plus serve a hot breakfast buffet each morning and have amazing evening socials. Your room comes with a calendar with the week's events ranging from Southwestern Salad Bar to BBQ and beyond!

We also dropped by the Days Hotel, Comfort Suites Mission Valley, Doubletree Hotel Circle,
Crowne Plaza San Diego, and Comfort Suites Zoo/SeaWorld.

We took a midday break from hotels and visited the San Diego Zoo where we got to explore the new Elephant Odyssey and Koalafornia exhibit. The World Famous San Diego Zoo is truly a must for any San Diego vacation - and Balboa Park, where the Zoo is located is definitely worth a visit as well.

After the Zoo, we visited a few more hotels for the day. We toured the Town & Country Resort.  This hotel is best known for its lush gardens and grounds. Three swimming pools, five restaurants and a private walkway to Fashion Place Mall are just some of the amenities you'll love at the Town & Country. Plus, Get Away Today guests get their 4th night free on select dates and free parking - a $14/night savings! It's one of our best values for a San Diego vacation.

We also stopped by the Comfort Inn Hotel Circle for a tour as well. This hotel is a family favorite with their pool area with a wading pool for little swimmers and a hot breakfast buffet each morning.

Our final hotel of the night was the Bahia Resort Hotel, located on Mission Bay. This property offers a range of standard rooms and suites in a stunning setting. They have a wonderful pool area and guests staying here can get a free bay cruise aboard the Bahia Belle. We love the Bahia!

We also had the opportunity to take our own Old Town Trolley Tour. This Tour offers such interesting information on the city's best attractions with on and off privileges. You'll see places like Horton Plaza, SeaPort Village, the Gaslamp District, Balboa Park and more. It is such a great way to get familiar with the area and we recommend doing it in the beginning of your trip. You may just decide to add a thing or two to your itinerary!

San Diego has been so good to our agents - we love sending guests to San Diego, one of our favorite vacation destinations!
