Picking a hotel for your Disney World trip can be the hardest part of planning your magical vacation since there are so many options. To help, we’ve begun putting together reviews for the Walt Disney World Resort hotels. You can check out last month’s review of the Pop Century Resort here. Today, we’re sharing our Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Riverside review. You’ll find a run-down of the rooms, amenities, dining options, pool and location.

Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Review – Rooms:

The Port Orleans Riverside offers a variety of room types. You can choose from Standard View, Garden View, Pool View, River View or even a King Bed or Preferred Room instead. Each of the rooms, besides the king bed, will include either two queen beds or two queen beds and one child-size pull-down bed. Typically, the rooms with the pull-down beds have been request and based on availability. However, the Port Orleans Riverside recently opened up a few new categories to guarantee the pull-down bed and for only a few more dollars a night.

No matter your view, you can expect gorgeous rooms that are themed like the Bayou, with a few characters from Princess and the Frog hidden throughout. The best thing is that the bathroom vanity is separate from the toilet and shower, making it easy for a family to get ready each morning without worrying about being in each other’s way. And, of course, there are mini-refrigerators and coffee makers in each room, so you won’t have to miss your daily cup of joe or any of those leftovers from your delicious meal the night before!

If you want ultimate luxury, consider booking one of the Royal Guest Rooms. Each of these rooms has two queen beds and is fit for royalty themselves with deluxe décor. You can expect gilded mirrors, hand-painted headboards, framed pictures of the famous Disney princesses themselves and more. We think it’s perfect for the family looking for a truly magical stay.

Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Review – Amenities and Resort Perks:

One part you can’t miss in our Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside review has to be the amenities. The property offers just as many unique ones as it does usual ones. The typical hotel amenities include parking for $19 per night, free WiFi, an ATM, laundry and dry-cleaning services, and optional childcare and mail services.

Distinct amenities at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside include water transportation to and from the Disney Springs shopping district, resort airline check-in, online check-in and all the usual perks that come from staying on property at Walt Disney World. Things like free transportation to and from the Orlando airport on Disney’s Magical Express, optional in-room celebration packages and package delivery to the hotel’s gift shop for any in-park purchases. Port Orleans Riverside also offers a playground and arcade for the little ones. Or, you can take a quick walk over to the Port Orleans French Quarter to try the playground and arcade there instead.

Additionally, when you book tickets along with your stay at the Port Orleans Riverside, you’ll have even more perks to take advantage of. Each guest in your party will receive a complimentary MagicBand, that can be used as your room key, credit card, FastPass+ selections, reservations and more. It also allows you to make all of your FastPass+ selections up to 60 days in advance versus the 30-day window for those not staying on property. This can especially be helpful for some of the rides that run out of FastPass+ selections daily, like Avatar: Flight of Passage, Frozen Ever After and Peter Pan’s Flight.

The amenities and perks are worth a stay at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside alone!

Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Review – Theme and Pools:

The theming of Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside is said to be one of guests’ favorites. The resort features a focus on the romance of rural Louisiana that is a complement to its sister property, Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter. You’ll feel like you’re wandering through the South, grand mansions and wild Bayou included.

The theme extends into the property’s main pool, Ol’ Man Island, a 3.5-acre refuge with its own waterslide. That’s right, this is one of the few Disney World hotels to have its own waterslide, a 95-foot-long rustic masterpiece built right into the millworks. Families will also enjoy the whirlpool tub, Muddy Rivers pool bar and kiddie pool for little ones of all ages. Ol’ Man Island is also home to daily pool parties, evening campfires and Disney movies under the stars on select nights.

If you’re looking for something a little quieter, the hotel also offers five leisure pools throughout the property. These are perfect for adults looking to soak the day away or spend a day recovering from all that walking. And don’t forget that you can always walk over to the Port Orleans French Quarter to experience the Doubloon Lagoon, complete with a 51-foot-long sea serpent waterslide and an all-alligator band.

Bike rentals, fishing, horse-drawn carriage rides and more can be scheduled for a small fee if you’re looking to enjoy all the resort has to offer even more.

Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Review – Dining:

You won’t be disappointed with our Port Orleans Riverside review – or the hotel itself – when it comes to dining. Port Orleans Riverside offers dining for every meal of the day, along with two bars and pizza delivery.

Boatwright’s Dining Hall is open for dinner each day and offers Southern hospitality alongside some New Orleans-style cooking. The casual dining spot overlooks the Sassagoula River and is decorated to look like a rustic shipyard with boat frames and antique shipbuilding tools. Reservations are recommended and can be made up to 180 days in advance. It’s good to know that the Disney Dining Plans are accepted at this savory dining hall.

For breakfast, lunch and dinner, you can always stop by the Riverside Mill Food Court. Just look for the big mill wheel and you’ll know you are on your way to some delicious quick-service meals. Reservations are not needed for this come-as-you-go restaurant and the Disney Dining Plans are also accepted here.

Looking to sip libations and listen to cabaret? Head over to the River Roost lounge, where performer Yehaa Bob will entertain with piano playing and singing while you try a variety of light snacks and old-fashioned cocktails. You can also find drinks at Muddy Rivers, the pool bar at Ol’ Man Island.

And, if you’re looking for something different, head over to Port Orleans French Quarter to try the Sassagoula Floaworks and Food Factory or Scat Cat’s Club lounge. Or, you’re just a short water taxi ride away from all the dining options at Disney Springs, where there is definitely something for everyone.

Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Review – Location:

To top it all off, Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside has a great location. It’s only a short water taxi from Disney Springs and a short shuttle drive from both Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Animal Kingdom is the next closest theme park, with Magic Kingdom being the farthest. However, Port Orleans Riverside is still one of the closest moderate resort hotels to Magic Kingdom. It’s a pretty great location to visit all of the four parks without too much transportation time.

And, as we’ve mentioned, it’s right next to its sister property, Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter. Being walking distance from another hotel doubles the dining, food and recreation options available.
